No bud, 2010 contract expires which i think means 2009 should be the last?????
But bernie said that if melbourne didnt pay more for the race or make it a night race then it was game over for australia, as a whole.
I thought business was about negotiation, not threats. Bernie is in his twilight years now and is clearly losing his faculties of clear and sound reasoning.
:x

hopefully he carks it before 2010... how terrible of me to say that... or is it??

I doubt he will. You have to admit, for a man of his age, he certainly has a lot more energy and is a lot more active than you would expect. I imagine Bernie will live for many more years. Not sure he'll make it as far as 100, but I don't think he'd be too far off.

I think Old Eccles is a greedy little p****. He'd sell his mother if he could make a buck out of it. Sure it makes good sense from a business point of view in the short term but if he continues to focus on nothing but the bottom line, it will eventually bite the old freak (as my son calls him) in his scrawny little bottom. It may take quite some time but F1 has been built on tradition and passion and if it begins to lose those things it will lose much of it's appeal. If a really well funded and cleverly marketed rival series were to make an appearance and attract serious interest from some of the better teams, I'll bet he'd start banging on about history, tradition and passion because that's about all that he'd have as a point of difference to save said scrawny little bottom.
By the way, did anybody else have a laugh at the expressions on the faces of the 3 force India drivers at the "outing" event? ForceD India would be a better name for the team, as in forced to wear stuff that makes me look like an idiot because I ain't f....'n Indian!! If that's the best you can do Fischi, it's time to retain some dignity and get the hell out. Made you look like a real w***** mate.

I got an idea for a rival series, helicopter turbine, 4wd, 4ws, cvt, ground effects, gforce suits, tubular racetracks for unlimited banking and rooftop over taking. Give it loads of bling like plasma screen billboards built into the track surface and have chase cams set up every where.
I will have bernies job please? Old fart is as exciting as a cheap caberet smorgasboard restaurant. 8)

In all the posts about the Australian GP, Rupert Murdoch's name has not surfaced. Native born Australian Rupert Murdoch owns TV & news print companies in the UK, US, Australia and Asia. Taking away the Australian GP is an attempt by Bernie Ecclestone to blackmail, and increase TV revenue funds from Murdoch. In the U.S. F1 races are televised on Speed Channel/Fox Network, both owned by Murdoch. Many members of this forum probably watch F1 on a Murdoch owned TV station. This is an angle to the Australian GP that has not been discussed.

Just to go back a bit. The "World" in baseball's "World Series" was the name of the origanal sponsor of the championship. The World newspaper.
As for why Evilstone trys to move things around it's just about maximising sponsor revenue. Which goes to show that F1 is not so much a sport as a business. An old mate of mine used to call F1 a "keep smoking advertising on television procession". Now Evilstone moves the races whereever the sponsor revenue will be highest due to television audiences. We could replace Evilstone and the gnome Mosely with Donald Trump and get the same results.
Aus hits the southern hemisphere but is restricted in what products are allowed or gain enough of an audience when plastered on the car. Thats why Russia, India, China, etc are being promoted. As for night races, well the signage really shows up at night eh? Evilstone could possibly steal the sponsorship from the teams (placement on the car would be hard to see at night) and sponsors would negotiate directly with him for on track neon signs. Would all end up a bit like the old Playstation game "Wipeout" but Bernies accountant would love it.
