You do need to be whipped....Vettel has 5 wins, not 4. :hehe:

Thanks for the update though! :)

Someone said regarding quali that there is always a bigger gap between Vettel and Webber than between Alonso and Massa , and between Lewis and Button. And concluded from that that Vettel was the better qualifier. I'd say these statistics say differently. It's much close over the year between Webber and Vettel than the other top two drivers and their partners. Which gives credence to the fact that Mr. Newey gets the praise here.

There's two things you need to consider:
  1. Red Bull is the only team to have two of the best qualifiers on the grid. Yet Vettel still outqualified Webber on average 4:5 since the moment he joined Red Bull.
  2. Earlier this season, and only earlier this season, this trend was broken. When a trend is broken, you must not just accept it, but ask, why? Fact is, despite slightly behind in qualiftying, Webber out-raced his team mate in only 3 races: China, Monaco and Silverstone. Rather than assuming the trend was broken (and then fixed again?) because Vettel suddenly turned s***, it's more likely Vettel chose a race set-up, which obviously paid off (misfortune aside).

Vettel is undoubtably an excellent qualifier. But that Red Bull is something else in quali, more so i think than in the race. The point you make that Jenson does not qualify so well usually whereas Mark often does, is a valid one..........I think it's different at Ferrari. I don't think Alonso is quite up with Vettel and Hamilton when it comes to quali and Massa has been off the boil for such a long period of time, also the Ferrari races better than it qualifies.
All that said, and this is just my opinion, if you put Hamilton and Vettel in the same car for a quali session Hamilton would win. It'd be close, but I'd bet on Hamilton.

Very true.
I don't think Alonso has ever been such a good qualifier and I'd also say not such a one lap pace man, unlike say Raikkonen or Kubica. Alonso is more of a [full]racer.
Webber was always up there, one of the best qualifiers with Jarno Trulli. Then Vettel came along and has pretty much destroyed Webber over the last 3 seasons.
Button I feel is same as Alonso too.

Interesting tidbit I read elsewhere:
In 2000, Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso races eachother in Formula 3000 in equal teams.
If you combine the qualifying laps of both (over the 6 races of which the info is available online) into a single super lap, Webber set a superlap time of 10:23.437 (over 10 minutes) and Alonso a combined superlap of 10:26.066.
The gap would be 2.629s over 6 circuits; an average gap of 0.438s per qualifying.

Yeah..that's in F3000 which was a long time ago. Skill set and experience is not static so those numbers prove squat.

You should tell Paul di Resta
But I don't think I said those numbers proved something; just thought it was interesting.

Yeah I should shouldn't I. Guy thinks he's the bomb, well he just got Hulk-punched this season. :whip:

I can't understand the Di Resta fuss. Except he's in with the Coulthard clique.

Granted, it's been a while since I've heard di Resta on the subject, but some things stick if someone doesn't really make headlines in other ways.
It started with "I would have also become champion in that Red Bull, I beat Vettel in Formula 3" and many similar comments followed to the point it seemed he wanted to build his image on "I beat the world champion".
