Figured I'd start a thread about places we've found that we love to eat in. Whether it's a street vendor or a chain restaurant, just blab about it here. I realize since we have a global community, it will be hard to find commonality in restaurants that aren't chains, but maybe we can just talk about stuff we like to eat.

Basically an expansion of Jabberwocky's pub thread since not every eatery is a pub. :hehe:

I'll start by putting out a little gem of a restaurant review I just ran across today. It's a review by the NY Times of Guy Fieri's new restaurant in NYC. I can't stand the guy, he's a pompous ass. (a la Jeremy Clarkson, but worse) It's the gig he's got on the TV show Diners Drive-Ins and Dives that makes me hate him even more, because it's the job I'd want and I'm jealous of and would totally do better. :irked:

The review of his restaurant though is hilarious! ...and as my doppelganger would say, a bit harsh. :whip:

And since the title of the thread is about favorite places to eat. I've been enjoying Vietnamese food lately, it's become my de facto go to place for lunch. If you're even in Lancaster PA and you feel like Vietnamese, try this place. I love it. Rice and Noodles.

Some of my favorites;
Goi Cuon Tom Nuong
Rice paper wrapped spring rolls with seasoned char-grilled
SHRIMP, vermicelli, bean sprouts, basil and lettuce.
Served with hoisin peanut sauce.

Seasoned char-grilled PORK Bun Thit Nuong
This entrée consists of a bed of vermicelli rice noodles served at room
temperature over shredded lettuce, cucumbers, bean sprouts and
cilantro. It is topped with peanuts, green onions and fried shallots with a
side of nuoc mam dressing.

Bo Kho / Vietnamese Spicy Beef Stew
This stew consists of chunks of marinated beef and carrots carefully
timed to perfection. Served with your choice of rice noodles, egg
noodles, glass noodles, a bowl of rice or warm French bread.

Rau Xao / Vegetable Tofu
crispy pan-fried RICE noodles
Seasoned vegetables, pineapples and tomatoes stir-fried in a VEGAN garlic
sauce (spicy) topped with cilantro and served with:

I'm making myself hungry.

I have a certain thing for truck stop vans. you got to make sure there is lots of people there as it shows the place is good.

I agree, a full parking lot is the first sign of a good place to eat.

One of things I miss since moving to Kansas is a good Kebab House (at this point any kebab house will do); not had a single kebab in four years; the Spangles Gyro does not count!

But restaurants that are here in Kansas, I like Olive Garden (Italian) and Abuelos (Mexican).

I prefer a pub environment. The Wetherspoon's chain is good, because its cheap and you get a great range of ales. No loud music either.

Until I'm rich, that will stay the case. :hehe:

You're close enough to Texas to get decent Tex Mex over there. That's the only thing I enjoy about visiting Texas, good eats.

But think of all the Man v Food meals that you guys have

using phone, so beware of predictive text errors.

Food is not to be fought with, it's to be enjoyed, savored, experienced. :D

Make em yourself, if you're heading out on the piss get them prepared skewered and marinading with any salad or anything chopped up before you go out. I discovered from a local kebab shop here about putting coleslaw on kebabs too :cloud9:

That would be great if I could actually find the opportunity to go out; family life means that 95% of the time, wherever I go, the kids go as well! I like the Doner Kebab and it's damn near impossible to get lamb here in Kansas unless it's ground lamb which doesn't work very well. Coleslaw works well on a kebab, but don't have the chilli sauce as well, it's a recipe for bathroom disaster!

This thread is driving me mad because today is a fasting day, but anyway, here I am.
One of my favourite places is a local pub(walking distance ) Called the Victoria. Food is fantastic and it has a huge range of beers, wines and whiskers. It's an old fashioned pub, no piped music, though sometimes live bands , no mobile phones. I urge you to look at the menu, and the beer and wine lists if you're into those. It's all home cooked , generous portions and always excellent. I'm going their Monday night.
