How much would HRT be worth?
Brwan got sold for a symbolic $1. But for real.... anyone knows how much a team is worth if you wanted to buy it?

Brawn was sold for $1 but Honda took into account that they would of had to pay many millions in closing the team down. The gave that money to Ross and that is how he funded part of the year.

I also hear that Lance Armstrong is available as spokesman for cheap. He's got lots of clout with sponsors.

I kinda admire HRT. They really want to race. They're a struggling team, not a rich playboy's hobby.

Having 2 teams already, shouldn't even be allowed.
BUT they do bring excitement and money into the sport... so even if its not the "best situation", they have brought the sport back to life..... whether its what's best for the sport guess we'll have to wait and see

I am sure that Ferrari has a hold over Sauber if they wanted something. Plus I would think that if Mercedes said "Do what we want or we double the price of your engines" would make Force India step into line.

Agree with that.They have a really little budget,but even with that and some judicial(I remember that was happening) problems,they managed to be enough for taking part and they really want this.

Not the same case at all.
Even if Merc said that, Force india could go look for a different supplier or sue the hell out of them. It's a free market after all, and engine suppliers still have to compete with the others. I'm sure they have some protection in their contracts as well. Doesnt mean "negotiations" don't take place, but i bet Toro Rosso has much less room for negotiation, if any at all.

As for Sauber and Ferrari, I don't think there is much influence besides some normal typical situations. Sauber had BMW before and it's hard to find where they align themselves with Ferrari now more than before. Toro Rosso has Ferrari engines, and it doesn't mean much. RB has MUCH more control over Toro Rosso than anyother team/supplier has.

I don't think it's that simple.

I believe there are other obligations attached to an engine deal. Some manufacturers may be more aggressive than others with this.

Case is point is that Sauber ( even prior to BMW, when using Ferrari engines), and latterly Toro Rosso, ALWAYS align themselves with Ferrari on all FOTA decisions. Co-incidence? I don't think so. It can always be written in as a clause to engine supply.

I believe the most watertight engine supply deal would be between Mercedes and Force India, given Mallaya's historical reluctance to pay bills on time, if at all.....

Yup. Not totally simple, there are always negotiations; and they consider and look for the best package they (available to them) when they go on a deal. On the other hand, Toro Rosso can't negotiate much because they are Red Bull already.

This is a good one though:

Probably sticking with Renault. This would allow them to supply Toro Rosso with the same gearbox, KERS etc.
