Silverstone is nice as it is, it doesnt need megabucks spending on it. Its got a great atmosphere and good facilities for the fans. Bernie just uses that excuse about tracks being substandard to threaten taking away the race. He has races where he wants them to suit his own political and commercial interests and its nothing to do with the state of the track. Look at Interlagos!! Bits fell of that and nearly hit(Alesi was it?) But still the track was on the caledar year after year. And he keeps really boring tracks on there too

There is no doubt that Silverstone needs some work, but the way Ecclestone is talking, you'd think the place was a demolition job. A new car park, a few new pit garages and a VIP suite to suit Ecclestone's whims would be more than enough. Formula One is becoming boring partly because we are losing circuits with class and character.

Especially Catalunya which got even more boring last year with that stupid chicane. At this rate the Catalunya circuit will break the record for the slowest average speed in a race ever. That will only stay because of Alonso's popularity, I just sure hope it rains there this year. If not I will personally take some buckets of water and waterlog the track myself.

i, and most viewers probably want to see good tracks, as most agree, theres to much cost now with hosting and constant circuit improving, i can see why aus wont bend over for bernie! perhaps when fans stop comming he will back track?

id rather see a track with a muddy car park, tacky grand stands and a good track than the opposite, but the rich disagree! too much glamour, not enough racing desire, just look at the celebs that turn up for monaco!

its certainly not racing entertainment that keeps a track!

China and Bahrain are alright, A1-Ring and Fuji are just rennovations but Turkey's not really lived up to it's hype, people always hark on abound Turn-8. Personallu I'd take the old banked Peralta from Hermanos Rodriguez anyday over Turn-8. And I wish Tilke would give his corners PROPER names instead of Turn 1, 2, 3 etc.

Formula One is like anything else these days: if it's too difficult, get rid of it. Any challenging corner has been altered, removed, or indeed the whole circuit has been dropped off the calender. A lot of this is down to what happened on 1st May 1994, and a lot of is justified, but we've gone much too far in some areas. The old Tamburello corner was not in itself dangerous. All that was really needed was something as basic and as dirt-cheap as a tyre barrier. And since 1994 the safety of cars and helmets has increased so, so much. There was no justification for ruining the Variante Alta as well at Imola a few years ago. The fact Suzuka is not on the calendar is also an absolute farce and a sign of the cankerous influence of men in grey suits who run Formula One and who profess to be working in its interests. With all their resources and henchmen they cannot even work out how to increase the overtaking ability of Formula One cars meanwhile 7Up and I have come up with several ideas off the top of our heads which could do so, not to mention decrease the costs of the sport, something about which Mosley has been gurning about for yonks.

I say bring back real tracks with real corners and real atmosphere: We want to see corners like Peraltada, the old Abbey, the old Retifilo! (Amongst numerous others.)

Anyway, it is a shame that Fuji replaced Suzuka for 2007 and 2008, but at least in 2009 we get to see Suzuka again, then every other year after that until Bernie decides there's a suit in his wardrobe that he never wears but would like to have the pockets filled nevertheless...

I don't think the solution is even that radical. Here's something I posted a while back on here:

'I think the solution to the problem is very simple: remove all the satellite aerials, solar panels and other contraptions strapped to the side of the cars, leaving only a front and rear wing and barge boards. That would severely chop levels of downforce, make the cars more attractive and reduce the amount of dirty air behind the cars. Bringing back slicks will put the focus on mechanical grip. Together these will be a big help. As ever with the FIA, there has to be red tape and a total lack of common sense.'

That, too, would be nice. I love the look of the older cars before all of the winglets started being added. As much as I like BMW Sauber, the new F1.08 is pretty ugly. It's got more pointy fin things than the Batmobile! However, I do like the cool 'shark fin' on the RB4s...

It's like Football Stadia these days, they're all boring bowl shaped grounds with no atmosphere, I quite like the tacky old stands at some of the old grounds because it has a classic feeling. Bramall Lane (the ground which Sheffield United play at) still has old stands from as early as 1966 but with new stands and refurbishment cleverly intergrated to make them blend in well to the entire ground.

Compare it to something boring like Middlesboring's Riverside Stadium or Leicester City's Walkers Stadium which is bowl shaped and has no character. Hillsborough may be a crap rickety old ground but it's still got character. But like F1, most of today's grounds are all built in accordance to the restrictions put in place after English Football's own "Imola 94" which were the 1985 Bradford Fire Disaster at Valley Parade (1 week after I was born) and the tragic Hillsborough Disaster from 1989 (which was also 1 week before Berger's bad crash at Tamburello).

Whilst it's all nice having posh facilities and smooth billiard table tracks, what happened to the days of "roughing it up" a little bit?
