That's what happened to Hamilton earlier in the year.

Exactly, Hamilton had 1 litre of fuel in his tank but was DQ'ed because he stopped to ensure there would be a litre in the tank!

But Hamilton didn't have any problem with the car, while Vettel did. That is the difference.

The force majure was given as a reason for them stopping on track, which is against the rules in quali and they weren't punished for stopping on track. The force majure was accepted. They were penalised for not supplying a fuel sample. Which is a separate issue. Nothing sinister. In this case they applied the rules correctly. I'm wondering now that they've elected to start from the pit lane whether they'll change his gear ratios and make the car more able to overtake.

Exactly RC. Two different issues. If he had a litre left in the car, he would be starting 3rd. 1.FIA accepted his stopping on the track 2.RB failed in the 1 litre test. Should make a good last few races. RB will make the most of this situation as far as changes and hope to get a couple of points

Webber........do your job as a #2 driver and slow the field.

Geetface, Vettel is on your team and you shouldn't support the whinning Alonso. He complained in Q2 that Webber slowed him on his radio. But Webber was MANY car lengths ahead and had no effect. Alonso not getting his way and crying on the radio

Webber has the slowest top speed of any driver. What will happen if he slows down the field meaning that there are drivers right behind him when DRS is enabled?

Webber needs to make a break at the beginning and build a lead.

Actually i dont think they will be able to change the gear ratios, even if they change the gearbox. Not without disqualification. They can change the gearbox.

Spot on explanation of the penalty - the FM was accepted for them stopping on track. The penalty was applied because he didn't have enough fuel for the sample. For anyone interested, as with most other tests, not ALL cars are tested. In the case of the fuel sample after Q at AD cars 1,2, 5 and 9 were selected to take fuel samples from.

If Red Bull are smart they'll give him a new GB and donk and they can choose which ratio set they now want for the GB. The penalty for the donk change would be 10 grid places and the 5 for the GB, but as they are at the back penalties have no effect. Also, its a way to give Seb an extra engine over the rest of the field as he has already opened/used all 8 of his allocated engines.

Ah so he can change the ratios. I thought they could be replaced but had to be exactly the same. If that's the case they'd be daft not to do it.

Edit: 5 place drop for the gear box, further 5 place drop to change gear ratios. RB have confirmed that they've changed both.
