Ted reckons the Renault asking us to stop comment from CH might be a smoke screen for lack of fuel in the red bull. I really hope it's lack of fuel in the car, it would make my freaking day.

Alonso is one lucky son of a gun if that's the case...for Redbull to make such a serious error after McLaren demonstrated it in Barcelona. Won't be the first time though looking at his 2005 and 2006 WDCs.

If Maclaren were not panicking before Abu Dhabi, they will be asking for a change of underwear now!. Same car with a 0.8 sec difference between drivers? Jeez!. Even more worrying, that dog of a merc driven by a 'respectable' rosberg is only 0.2 secs behind next years senior driver.

Yep..which is why I prefer Vettel winning this years' WDC since his 2010 was hard earned.

Even IF Vettel starts last..he's got a 13 point lead. Alonso is not going to win tomorrow from 6th or 7th, so a maximum of 18 is there for the taking...which only leaves him 5 points ahead of Vettel, and I don't think Vettel will fail to score points tomorrow starting last.

It's still a massive ask for Alonso to win this year even if Vettel starts last.

Pastor Maldonado will be taking no prisoners when the lights go out at the start of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, having qualified fourth behind championship leader Sebastian Vettel. Bearing in mind that the German may be cautious because of his title challenge, the Williams driver is looking to seize any opportunity which may arise.

The Saturday result is Maldonado and Williams’ best since the Venezuelan qualified on the front row in Singapore - also the scene of Lewis Hamilton’s last pole position.

“We have a very strong pace and we’re just very competitive,” says Maldonado, who is still yet to finish on the podium since he won the Spanish Grand Prix in May. “We just need to look at ourselves here because points would be very important for us, but I will be pushing to the maximum and then seeing what we can do from there.”

Team-mate Bruno Senna improved his personal best lap time at the end of Q2, but could manage no more than 15th place on the eighth row of the grid.

If Vettel stays on P3 for the start, both him and Maldonado will grab every bit of slipstream they can.

It's a short run to Turn 1, and even then there's not much braking there. It would be about minimizing contact rather than overtaking at Turn 1. But it will be interesting to see how two DRS zones could aid overtaking tomorrow.

He could be out by the second corner if Pastor has the red mist.

Abu Dhabi GP: Surprised Sebastian Vettel sure Red Bull issue not major


Sebastian Vettel was left perplexed by Red Bull's instruction to stop his car following the end of qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but doubts it will prove significant.

The German driver, the winner of the previous four races, had to settle for third position on the Yas Marina grid, having been unable to match the pace of McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and his own team-mate Mark Webber.

After the session ended, Vettel was asked to stop his car on the track, although the world champion is confident it was not a serious problem.

"I don't know why I had to stop. I was asked to stop, I guess there was some problem," said Vettel. "It should not be something major."

Vettel said he had not been entirely happy with his qualifying after having missed most of the final practice session because of a brake issue.

"This morning it was not ideal not getting to run. We didn't get answers we were hoping for. I'm not entirely happy with my qualifying," he said.

"The last part was tricky for me. I guess I should have been a bit quicker but overall we can be quite happy. The race pace should be good tomorrow. It is a long race here, lots can happen so I am looking forward to tomorrow."

Vettel said the brake issues were fully rectified for the grid-deciding session.

"We fixed the problem and had fantastic brakes in qualifying," he said.
