Perfectly normal for him not to be allowed to go to Merc until next year. McLaren will be worried about their secrets being revealed and incorporated into Merc's next attempt at building an F1 car, especialy where it concerns a potential competitor.

I guess in F1, they don't know about conferencing?

In which case Mr. Whitmarsh should show the same consideration to Sauber.

I think Mercedes will know everything Lewis knows about the MP4-27 and some ideas as to where they're going with the MP4-28. It's just the nature of the business. You can't unlearn things right? Engineers ask questions and just the types of questions being asked is enough to give another group of engineers insight as to where a team is headed and what they're looking for.

I don't doubt that Lewis will be a superb asset to Mercedes with his knowledge and diving skills whenever he starts work there. It was more the principal of the situation I found arrogant and hypercritical.

What's it got to do with him? It would be more down to whether or not Sauber will release Perez or not. If Sauber release him as of the end of the Brazilian GP then McLaren would be stupid not to get him working for them the next day!

Read the article Andrew, then you'll know what it's about!!!

Then you shouldn't need to ask what Whitmarsh has to do with it, because the article told you.
Both drivers are contracted until the end of the year. Whitmarsh hinted he wants Perez released early, having publicly stated he is not prepared to afford the same conditions to Lewis. I find that an arrogant and hypercritical stance to take.

As I said it would be up to Sauber if Perez can work for another team and essentially end his contract early. If Sauber say yes then Whitmarsh would be stupid not to get him in early doors.
