Anyway there might a slight chance for a return for Sutil

Force India team principal Vijay Mallya says he will consider Adrian Sutil as a race driver in 2013 if Nico Hulkenberg leaves for Sauber at the end of the year.

Hulkenberg is thought to have signed a deal with Sauber for next season, but neither team nor driver has confirmed the news. Mallya revealed to Reuters in India that Hulkenberg has been offered a contract by Force India, but said his team would not stand in the German's way if he wants to leave.

"I offered an extension to both drivers," Mallya said. "I hear from the media that Nico has signed with Sauber. Well, if he has then good luck to him.

"I have not been officially notified by Nico of anything. He hasn't sat down with me and told me that. I would expect that he would if he was on his way...I have an excellent relationship with him, he's a wonderful guy. He's done well for us."

Mallya dropped a big hint that Sutil, who drove for the team for five years from 2007 to 2011, would be next in line if Hulkenberg goes to Sauber.

"Never forget I always have the potential of considering Sutil again," he added. "Sutil is always quick. So there are many options. I would certainly consider him."

Hulk to Sauber official.

Yep. Good times.

[What's Burning?]

This was the very first F1 car I ever saw in person. It was during some promotional thing they were doing in Newport Rhode Island in 1989 I guess around the Canadian GP. Love at first sight.

An upgrade to their driver lineup afaic.

It would be a shame if they get rid of Kobayashi for Esteban Gutierrez as the only reason to do so would be for continued pandering to the Mexican market$.

Hulk CONFIRMED at Sauber:

Sauber has confirmed Nico Hulkenberg will drive for the Swiss squad during the 2013 Formula 1 season.

The 25-year-old German has been driving for the Force India team this year, enjoying a strong season in which he has scored 49 points in 17 races.

Hulkenberg had been linked with Felipe Massa's seat at Ferrari, but was expected to move to Sauber after the Brazilian got a new contract.

"I'm really looking forward to working with the Sauber F1 team," said Hulkenberg. "It's a well-placed team and very competitive. Plus it's a team in which young drivers have repeatedly delivered exceptional performances.

"I would like to take up that baton. The Sauber F1 Team is currently going through a very positive development and I'm certain that together we can achieve a lot.

"Until that time I will remain fully focused on my job with the Sahara Force India Team. I'd like to thank the management at Sahara Force India for giving me the chance to return to Formula 1 as a team driver."

Hulkenberg made his grand prix debut with the Williams team in 2010 after having clinched the GP2 title the previous season. That year he secured pole position at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

"We've been observing Nico for some time now and his performances have been very persuasive," said Sauber team boss Monisha Kaltenborn. "That was the case in GP2 and has continued into Formula 1.

"An obvious highlight was how he scored pole at Interlagos in 2010 despite the most challenging external conditions.

"He clearly showed that he can seize the chance if it arises. But high spots like that are one thing; systematic teamwork is another - and on that score I have confidence in Nico too. I'm sure he will fit in very well with the Sauber F1 team. We look forward to working together with him."

Sauber said it will announce its second driver for the 2013 season at a later date.

Glad to see him progressing! Let's hope he joins one of the top teams soon.
