With HK moving to Switzerland, more than a quarter of all current F1 drivers are living in Switzerland, mostly for tax reasons, but also for the Swiss chocolate, cheese, watches, army knives, Alps and skiing and yadda yadda. Some retired F1 stars still live there as well: JA, MS, JV, AP, Let's see with MS (7), AP (4), FA (2), JV (1) and KR (1 title) we have a total of 15 titles out of 58 residing in Switzerland! LH could well become another 'Swiss' titleist down the road. Plus BMW Sauber is headquartered in Hinwil.
'bout time for a Swiss GP somewhere - I suggest a combined Austrian-Swiss race on the A1-Ring, somewhat like the combined Soccer Euro Cup coming up.

Racing isn't allowed by law in Switzerland ever since that massive accident at Le Mans all that time ago, so I doubt it would happen. The A1 Ring, however, would be a nice place to have a GP again. As would Estoril and several other locations.

I dunno, I never really saw the point in these honorary Swiss motor races. They're really just another nation's race, why not just call it that?

As for the idea of a combined Austrian/Swiss GP though, that has legs.

Great weather, and no taxes either. Just a lot of Golf and fun in the beach. I could sell even them a nice house in Cap Cana

How about a return to the legendary Dijon circuit where the last F1 race there was dubbed the "Swiss GP" even though it was in France?

Yes, I'm fully aware that the law is against circuit races in Switzerland despite recent attempts to change that. That's why I suggested Austria, also because Mateschitz is keen on getting it on the calendar, so he would be a natural ally for such an endeavor. Dijon is ok, yes it was the last Swiss GP, but there's no real powerful lobby for it - France is even losing their own GP. On the other hand, if France would approach the Swiss and offer a collaboration, who knows?

Red Bull are a big company and getting even bigger by all accounts. Their Formula One team is starting to look a decent outfit as well. In several years time Ecclestone may be tempted.

Maybe. The government hates cars, but that doesn't necessarily reflect public opinion

I would vote for F1 to return to the Österreichring an amazingly fast and beautiful track and the scenery is spectacular.

F1 is very popular in Switzerland - no wonder as it's sandwiched between Germany and Italy, France and Austria and has its own F1 team. I could imagine that there would be support for a Swiss GP as long as it's held outside of Switzerland. This kind of attitude goes well with the way Switzerland in general approaches things: the dirty stuff is done abroad or gets shipped out of the country to preserve the 'clean' Swiss image
