Anthony Davidson at JerezAnthony Davidson is optimistic he will be on the grid at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix despite not having been confirmed at Super Aguri yet.
"I'm confident, yes," Davidson told reporters after testing in Jerez on Thursday.
The Briton, who is expected to partner Takuma Sato, was included on the FIA entry list for 2008, but Super Aguri have said they are yet to finalise deals with their drivers.
Davidson had not tested in over two months and was back behind the wheel for the first time this year yesterday at the Spanish circuit.
The Super Aguri driver admitted it was hard being away from the car for so long.
"It's my first time back in the car after two months so it was tough, but very good fun," he said. "It's very good to be back.
"The team had a successful three-day's running, they've done about 100 laps each day so they are pretty pleased with what they've done. We've made a lot of progress."
He added: "I've been training really a lot over the winter. I'm probably the fittest I've ever been and I arrived here and did 103 laps and I feel fine. So I'm really happy with what I've been doing.
"I'm kind of missing it even though I'm here. In the winter I felt more like an athlete than a Formula One driver."
Davidson, whose team have not tested as much as their rivals, is under no illusions for the start of the season, and he reckons Super Aguri will be at the back of the field.
"I think it's going to be tough, with where the team are at the moment. This is our first serious test of the year. We are still learning the systems and we have three more days until we go to Melbourne.
"So it will be hard work for us. We are going to be one of the tail end cars, for sure."
To be as polite as possibly, he better damn well get a race seat next year. Davidson has shown he is a quality driver and it would be a shame to see some other tit get the nod over him.
