just a warning to you, i am a troll. a really bitchy troll. and i twist facts to match my opinion. there i have said it. and most of my posts will reflect this characteristic. so if you like fair, fact based points of view, this is probably not the post for you.
i say arrogant because i read his interview with the sunday times where he was asked what he thought of of what hamilton and vettel had already achieved in the sport (hamilton beating his double world champion team mate in his rookie year and winning wdc in his 2nd year, vettel winning the championship with red bull) and his answer was @nothing much. they are just doing what they should be doing in f1@. i thought it was an answer that smacked of such arrogance. particularly with the evidence of his f1 career so far, there is small chance he would have done what hamilton did in his first 2 years and the incredible speed shown by vettel and total domination of webber.
and i say dull, because he really does come across as dull. apparently when mclaren was running the options of perez, hulkenberg and di resta past their sponsors, di resta got a big thumbs down. not so much because of his driving ability but because he was the least exciting @box office@ draw compared to the aggressive, exciting overtakers and personalities in perez and hulkenberg..
i think though in terms of polish and maturity, di resta comes across as wise and calm beyond his years. his interviews on the grid in his first few races i have never seen a rookie so in control of everything.
but i wonder if he has missed his big chance? it seems EVERYONE was wanted but him.
his most likely shot mercedes wanted lewis instead of him.
mclaren wanted perez instead of him.
ferrari wanted massa instead of him.
and worst of all sauber wanted his team mate, the driver everyone measures you by, hulkenberg instead of him, a guy who has just come back into the sport.
next year a lot of very fast drivers are coming in who could interest the top teams.
as mclaren showed, whether a driver has or not the raw speed to do special things on the track and really outperform the car is the most important factor to them.
and there are a lot of very fast drivers coming in next year and fast drivers already in f1 who will mature another year and be ready for a big move.
botas is coming to williams.
guitierrez is coming to sauber.
very fast maldanado and grosjean are at the stage whether they are trying to combine maturity with their very high natural speed.
so mclaren both drives are filled for long term, so are mercedes. vettel in all likelihood will stay at red bull long term while newey and the car are so good. alonso is at ferrari long term and he LOVES massa as his partner, just enough speed but not too much, and luca wants to keep alonso.
which leaves just the second seat at red bull when mark retires. ricciardo and verge are showing good speed now that torro rosso have a decent midfield car so the second seat will likely go to one of them because it would be an embarrasment to red bull to have spent all this time and money on their young drivers programme and then not use any of them for red bull
and possibly the worst thing for di resta, is his team mate for next year could outshine him, the thing that undid him this year, because alguersari is the most likely to get the seat.
and alguersari is very fast, has almost 3 years experience, very hard working and personable, and is a cool, charistmatic well known DJ in his spare time. i was really surprised torro roso let him go because he had some stunning drives in 2011. if alguersari becomes di resta's team mate, that would be so bad for di resta.
alguersari will out drive him, outshine him with a decent personality compared to di resta's dour lack of personality.
so back to my original question, do you think di resta's chance of a top drive is gone.
