But they would make money. They'd make money from winning as a team and from marketing as a team

I would say the majority of fans wouldn't like just a team championship, and would walk away from the sport.... then there would be no money for the teams to make..

History will look at Schumacher and see a 7 world championships, and not "He was the number 1 driver and Rubens was not allowed to beat him"

Think about in the olden days when drivers would give up their cars so the team leader could finish the race.

exactly!!!! what people want are drivers racing each other and yet there's this pretence that its all a team sport. make your mind up time!

I think though, sometimes the second half of the season will be too late, sometimes it is better to consistently favour or design your car around one driver, which will produce better results than having a car and resources etc. initially balanced at the start of the reason between two drivers.

Although modern F1, with tight resource restrictions, I think lends itself to getting the maximum out of both drivers.

I don't agree with the ethical side of things, or even the sporting side, the teams race to win, and the drivers aren't forced into signing up.

Well they sort of are, if its that or nothing, they have to sign up.

Thats a RUBBISH idea- there would only be 12 drivers on the grid. The races would be dull(er than when Vettel wins).

Aye, although if they are a top driver, they ought to be able to find another top team, or be able to convince the team they are the one worth backing.

there'd have to be a way of attracting more teams

Which means the prize money would need to be spread across 24 (or however many) teams - which makes it financially less viable, and I doubt teams would sign up....?

I hope everyone realises that true equality (ie one that encompasses every single aspect of car preferences, opportunites, contractual obligations, the lot) is a pipe dream. So perhaps it is pointless to dwell on it. Schumacher era Ferrari ran things the most effectively and all the evidence backs that up, even if they brought the sport into disrepute with some of their stupid antics.

One car teams in F1 is so completely and utterly unfeasible, if that ever happened the sport would die instantly...!

I'm glad this discussion has remained civil and relatively free of opinion bashing. One thing to add is that team can get the most out of their investment by having multiple cars... (Ferrari wanting 3 car teams) simply because the engineering already invested, but there is yet another vehicle to spread the testing to given the limited test time on track.

Hmmmmm there must be other ways round this, I'll think about it.

Who said anything of the sort? Define team and constructor and you'll get your answer.
