Hammer, RC...could this be a career-killer for Whitmarsh if Lewis ever qualifies in front of any of the McLarens next year? The McLaren Board can't be amused by such a thing. It's clear the team tried to paint Lewis into a corner thinking he has no options but to stay at McLaren. WRONG—they let him get away, one of the top three best drivers in F1. "And now he's beating us with a car that was marginal at best in 2012," I can hear a Board member saying. In most Board's minds, "someone has to pay." Frankly, if Lewis qualifies 4th or 5th next year, no one will be surprised—takes a bit of time and synergy to build up a wicked car. But if he gets poles or even if not but is in front of any or both McLarens, all hell will break loose in Woking. I'm wringing my hands with anticipation for 2013!

Just own it already. Mclaren has been duckling and there is nothing that Lewis or Jenson can do about it. This taking on a new challenge BS by Lewis is just smoke and mirrors. He left because he's pissed about not having a winning car. Fair enough, but he should have pursued Red Bull. He should have said listen, I'll give you (mclaren) one more year, sign a one year contract, or whatever the time frame is with webber's contract ending. They have their stuff together, and I don't believe for a damn minute that they give Vettel priority over webber. They may towards then end if there is a clear victor to come but not to start with.

Jenson isn't going to get mclaren to mold around him with perez either. So enjoy your golden boy getting smashed by Mclaren and Co. If Schumi and Rosberg are barley keeping their head above sauber and being demolished by the Lotus, Ferrari, Mclaren, and Redbull i don't see what lewis is going to be able to do. Hey maybe he can get a 2009 championship-like-season too.

I think we're seeing Lewis's true colors, and frankly I'm disappointed in him. I supported him and Jenson and the team since 2010 when I started really watching this sport. I went back and watched the 2008 and 2009 series. I saw them both on top gear, love their personalities and I loved all the little promos they did with mclaren.

My point was that i think that finding a time to make adjustments to the car wouldnt be so hard to do in the whole grand scheme of things. I've said my reasons why i believe it's possible and if you believe it's insane thats up to you. I don't think it's insane and if f1 history has taught us anything its that backroom politics, favouritism, tension,breakdown in relationships, scandal, making decisions based on emotion and things of the like are nothing new.

F1 might have a dodgy history but people only ever did those things to gain an advantage or win a championship, look at crash gate was there to win a season. Why would McLaren ever want to waste millions of pounds in R&D, building a car, man power hours, materials etc so they can sabotage their only driver shoo had any chance of winning a WDC? The logic is flawed because they have no gain.

I'm getting pretty bored of this...it's like having an indepth intelligent conversation stating logic and reasoning for beliefs with someone then another person joining the conversation when its nearly over and lambasting you when the reasoning has already been stated and the new person hasn't heard all the key points.....i stated my logic ages ago and addressed the situation of financial gain and my argument was based on the team backing Button for the championship because this years champion driving for you next season also brings financial gain commercially and opens the door for many business and sponsorship opportunities, its total logic and total common sense actually and yes i know how important constructors points are, i would imagine that all f1 fans know how important they are and the money it will bring but i believe that backing Button afer Hamilton signed for a merc is a gamble they were willing to take whilst picking up all the constructors points they could once Button made a good run at the title and now look where mclaren are, its so pathetic. Lewis was the fastest guy on the track for 3/4 races before Japan(I believe Lewis would have been fastest in Spa too had rain not ruined the practice sessions and forced the 2 mclaren drivers to gamble on set up cos he was simply having no issues dialing the car in to its limits for both qualy and the race at this point in the season) and now look at him and the team, they have totally lost their way and don't deserve to win anything this year as far as im concerned. Good riddance, I'm glad Lewis is leaving and taking on a new challenge at this point in his life.You dont believe they stopped supporting Lewis after he signed for Merc but i do and i'm not the only one. His equipment has not been to the same standard they have given Button in Japan and Korea....ive already covered this in a previous post...look it up or don't. It doesn't matter now anyway cos the WDC and the WCC are both gone for mclaren this season.

And to add to all that it could be argued that the fractured relationship between Lewis and mclaren(something else i have already covered) could go a long way to contributing towards Mclarens decision to stop supporting a young man who has been at the team since he was a young boy and turn their allegiances to the new self proclaimed "team leader" in Jenson Button....non of this is beyond all the realms of possibility and i dont buy into any of this recent PR lovin either, they have heard the recent scepticism from media and fans alike and are just covering their asses.

Hey I resent that because as a Lewis fan, I'm not programmed that way. The same can be said for McLaren you know... if they're not winning then Other teams are using Flexi wings, and adjusting their ride height in parc ferme or screwing with overrun settings etc.

We'll have to wait and see what happens next year, but at this point the real interesting question is who wins a championship first, McLaren or Mercedes/Lewis? Given the recent history, it's even by the bookies I'm sure.
