Just as it says...

I took my car out for a little exercise, and to get a little bit of gas since when it's around a 1/4 tank the front starts to get a a little light. So there was still some daylight left and I took the long way through some back roads with recently harvested corn fields on either side and I sped right by something big about 30 feet into the field to my right. I couldn't tell exactly what is was at first because... well, because I was speeding.

Long story short, I back up the car about 100 feet or so and there it was, a gorgeous bald eagle, feasting on a little cotton tail it had just killed. We looked straight at each other, and I guess I wasn't well liked, because it picked up the carcass and flew off and landed about 100 feet further from the road and then kept right on eating.

So i just got home from uni at 9:20pm. But it was pretty worth it today, i had an awesome lecture.

Basically it is from a man called Geoff Goddard (google him - ex Cosworth, TWR, Renault, etc), about component design. But we got sidetracked. He showed us this slide of the original design drawings (cool to see in itself!) he made for Schumacher's '94 Cossie engine, and it sparked a massive discussion of the various things he's worked on over the years... couple of interesting little things i heard about that i thought i'd share here.

- Cossie turbo engine for F1 was designed, 120deg V6 that produced a maximum of 2013 horsepower. 2013! This was in the 80's! Obviously it couldn't ever have been raced at such high levels cause it would have melted. But this was in the day where they had grenade quali engines that lasted one flying lap only before cooking.
- The last Renault V10 (2005) could run up to a massive 25,000 rpm! They generally ran it at 19,5/6... hence the massive reliability compared to the Mercedes engines. It was well within it's capacity basically. Remember how McLaren were so much faster than Renault in the second half of 2005, then Renault suddenly won at China? Apparently they just decided to run the engines up to 22k rpm just for the hell of it, and it gave them the edge.
- This engine was essentially so good they used certain specs (port dimensions and such) as the basis for the current V8 engine regulations...
- Apparently, the new engine regs are an utter joke in terms of potential power and efficiency. Once again politics have won over common sense it seems to me, based on what i heard (from the horses' mouth) today. The new turbo regs require very unsophisticated turbos, unnecessarily. With better systems 1000hp could easily be generated... in a 750cc engine. A top quality turbo system would give approx 60% thermal efficiency, compare that to what our road cars have and what (i think he said) the new turbo regs will give, only 30-35%. Pretty much half.

Pretty cool huh? :) This is stuff you just won't ever get from autosport and whatever...

Well, if you read the comment Vettel had on the new regulations, and we all know he's really good when it comes to technical side, he said the similar thing. I know that that professor is right, it is the bloody politics. I wish I could have seen that stuff too. :D

I think they could of made the new engine regs much better.

Only one rule. No in race refueling, and 100L fuel tanks.

Today has been hectic!I woke up around 7:20 which is like 1 hour later than I usually do on school days, because I needed to get my blood drawed for some tests, nothing important.I got the blood drawing thing done,it lasted longer than the ones I got before and after that I wasn't feeling well,I almost fainted/threw up thanks God nothing happened.
After I felt better,I had breakfast then went to school, had lovely Chemistry and Physics.I came back home then I went to guitar lessons, noisy kids there but still good. Now I'm back home :D

Oh,didn't add, when i was on my way to hospital I tweeted McLaren's twitter account to be social on social Friday and follow me.Well,it worked out, this made my day :D

It's not the rain that bothers me (I was fully water-proofed), it's the wind, especially when I was standing at an empty berth on the quayside for half an hour filling IBC's.

Ah well, it's all good clean fun. :D
