Brawn however has made it perfectly clear it was Lewis who wanted to come, that Mercedes didn't go and seek him out :whip:

Now here's a man who understands what motivates his driver! And thats before he's even arrived in the team. Brawn on Lewis.

Well, he says what any other team boss would've said with regard to the impending arrival of Hamilton. Brawn is a good man though, and deserves success. I wish Brawn and Hamilton all the best, but I still believe the decision was erroneous.

But who am I to say? We'll find out eventually. What's coming will come, and we'll have to face it when it does.

Lewis has moved up the food chain and Brawn knows exactly what he is doing

Best move by Lewis, he is going to be doing something only the very very best drivers get a chance to do, in fact only MS has really done this, have unlimited funds and a handpicked team of top top guys, and the mission of dominating the sport over at least 8 years

A handpicked team of people chucked out of their own teams right, Bob Bell and Costa, unlimited funds with a spending cap too.

I hear you,

the fact remains though that there is a mission in progress and the guy(s) perpetrating this has done it before with success

the key is the driver that can bring half a second, that motivates the team, gets sponsors listening, and keeps the money taps flowing

Mercedes now have best F1 driver in Lewis Hamilton, says Niki Lauda

Mercedes now have the 'best driver' in Formula 1 after signing Lewis Hamilton, says triple world champion Niki Lauda.
Mercedes have won just one race in the last three years but Lauda - who is also joining the team - expects Hamilton to turn round their fortunes.
"In a bad car he is the best driver in the world because he is unbelievably quick and he makes no compromise," Lauda told Sportsweek on BBC 5 live.
"Lewis joining is high motivation. They have realised their weaknesses."
Hamilton's career
Makes his debut in 2007 at the Australian Grand Prix for McLaren, qualifying fourth and finishing third
Wins the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix after finishing on the podium in each of his first five races
In 2008 signs a lucrative five-year contract to race for McLaren until the end of the 2012 season
The same year he becomes, at the time, F1's youngest world champion
A disappointing 2009 sees him finish fifth with only two wins
Still searching for his second World Championship title after finishing fourth and fifth in 2010 and 2011 respectively
Signs to race for Mercedes from the 2013 season
Hamilton has dramatically shaken up the 2013 F1 field by joining Mercedes in a three-year deal , ending both his 14-year association with McLaren and Michael Schumacher's comeback with the Silver Arrows.
Lauda, who is also joining Mercedes as a board member, talked through a potential move with Hamilton and tempted the 27-year-old with a chance to succeed where seven-time champion Schumacher failed.
"I was impressed with his approach to things, very pragmatic, no emotions whatsoever," revealed Lauda.
"The real discussion was 'why should I leave a competitive car where my life is easy in the future?' So my argument was if you're looking for a new challenge then certainly the Mercedes team is one.
"And think of it the other way round, if Schumacher couldn't get the Mercedes team running up front for three years and you next year are doing much better it makes a huge impact on your personality and people will rate you much higher.
"In the end it convinced him that the challenge is what he wants to do. For a competitive guy like Lewis, it's very interesting."
Hamilton's move to Mercedes is a risk given the German team's form since returning to the sport in 2010, when they bought Ross Brawn's 2009 championship-winning Brawn Grand Prix team.
Analysis

Andrew Benson
Chief F1 writer
"The man who most consider to be the fastest driver in the world has taken a huge gamble by switching from McLaren, who have the best car this year and have won five races this season alone, to Mercedes, who have won one race in three years.

Nico Rosberg's victory in China this season is their only win in the last three years, compared to McLaren's 16 wins over that same period. There are still six races still to go in 2012.
Mercedes have sold the move to Hamilton on the basis that they are preparing for a huge push in 2014, when new chassis and engine rules are introduced, but Lauda is confident Hamilton's arrival will also motivate the team to design a more competitive car for 2013.
"When Lewis joins, it's a big change for everybody there," he added. "It's high motivation as they all know that if they don't give him a decent car he will not win.
"The most important thing now is that [team principal] Ross [Brawn] and his team realises all the things that are wrong on this car and make a better car next year - the chances are very good. A lot of changes have been done.
"If the car is competitive, and this possible, then he will win races, there is no question about it.
"The Hamilton effect will push Rosberg to go quicker and Nico will push Hamilton to go quicker and this is all you need in a team."
plus in 2011 Lauda accused him of being dangerous now he's the best driver in the world!

Not much mention of how Rosberg will stand up against Hamilton, will be an interesting watch. I think he could well outperform him next year.

So much for folk saying that Lauda has it in for Hamilton...

I think he's saying only what Martin Whitmarsh has said about Button over the last year and therein lies why their more successful driver has flown the coop.

I believe that there was nothing McLaren was going to say or do that would entice him to stay. I wish McLaren all the best but they are the ones getting the short end of the stick in the deal. Ultimately they will be judged by how Perez drives for them for the next tree years and if they at some point in the future are overtaken in the WCC standings by Mercedes.

What do you expect? Those types of people are so fickle you just have to laugh.

Can't see that. Rosberg goes missing in races far too often.

People who were previously all over Lauda when he justifiably criticised Hamilton's driving last season, yet now change their tune.

Im still not sure whose changed their tune? ive seen no evidence of tune changing since lauda spoke hypocritically of Lewis being dangerous. Do you mean Brawn?
