Jenson Button says the 2012 McLaren car is the worst car the team have given him since he joined

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/nov/05/jenson-button-mclaren-worst-car

Ok, so this car has been a real disaster, maybe if it was a couple seconds quicker he could have done ok

He did say at the start of the season that he had had a lot of input into the car and that it was fantastic and there would be no excuses for not leading the team to a title!

:yikes:

That's interesting from Jenson. Lewis said his car this weekend was fantastic, the best it's ever been...........up until the point it broke of course. But then if Lewis hadnt been driving one of the McLarens this year, people wouldn't be calling it one of the fastest cars on the grid, they'd be saying McLaren was the fourth or fifth fastest car.

Edit: I've just read through that article. Jenson says the car works well for Lewis but only works well for him sometimes. It isn't consistent. hmmm,
He also says.....we've got to try a few new things with set up. I'm not happy with where it is at the moment. But hopefully it will be perfect nextbyear :rofl:

It's a bit late in the season to realise you need to try different things with the set up. Venturing off on his own on set up earlier in the year was a disaster. And next year he won't have Lewis data to fall back on, so is he expecting another rocket ship? Or does he have inside information on Perez's set up abilities?

NoGrip's constant griping next season will be felt in McLaren and he might find himself no.2 to Perez before half the season has passed.

Id say he was just showing the same deceitfulness we have seen over and over

bet he feels like a silly bottom and that he and the team have sat down to talk about pulling his socks up for next year

I read the Guardian article earlier, even I thought that it was a bit rich calling it the worse McLaren car since 2010, if it had better reliability, it would be a title challenging car, at least in the hands of Lewis. I'm not going to stop supporting Jenson but he does need to stop making excuses and make the car work for him like Alonso, Vettel and Hamilton has. I feel like Jenson is making a rod for his own back with these statements, he'd get much more respect by saying I wasn't quick enough this season, I'll try harder next season. I did say a very similar thing when Jenson was going through his lean patch earlier in the season. Bottom line at this point, make it work for you, or get the hell out of the sport and make way for someone else.

It is nice to see a reasonable post about Button for a change :)

I always make reasonable posts about Button; it is possible to be a fan and not be blinkered!

Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel, Kimi; they've all had a solid year with little to fault in their driving. From the contenders, Button is the one standout from the list of WDCs that has not driven to the capacity of the car under him. That's a glaring gap in a year preceding most of McLaren's future championship hopes shifting over to him.

To make a statement like that about a car with multiple poles and GP wins this year is tough to swallow.
