Lewis is not at the end of his career!

:hehe:

I can't wait to see the fallout if Lewis does sign for Mclaren, or he signs for Mercedes and they're rubbish. F1 is a team sport, McLaren will judge how much they need Lewis, and how much they want to pay him, Mercedes will do the same (if they are even interested in him, but they probably are) and Lewis will see what he thinks the better offer is.

Fallout happens regardless with Lewis fans and detractors, it's just part of the background noise. So you're already setting up the scenario nicely. But apparently McLaren are judging they need Lewis more than they originally offered him, so that's got to be acknowledged. I wonder what changed their mind, after all you'd think their initial offer was a good faith based offer.

Of course, they're a business, it's negotiations. No need to pay Lewis more than necessary.

I forgot to mention Nico Rosberg, generally ignored on this forum, and I don't think he has any fans to defend him.

Well nothing like publicly capitulating to weaken a negotiating stance. Sadly I think said negotiations aren't over yet.

McLaren have matched Mercedes offer to Lewis and may allow him more opportunity for commercial deals. Mercedes have committed to F1 until 2020. There are rumours that Lauda may be involved in a Mercedes reshuffle :yuck:

The suggestion of a pay packet match Plus "win incentives" is a really good deal for Lewis because that guarantees he will make more than Jenson for the foreseeable future. He also maintains the stability of the "nest" where he's been for so long and if McLaren can be as competitive next year as they are this, Lewis will be wringing his hands to get into the new car...a car that is, if you believe Paddy Lowe and others, being built around the Stevenage lad. Lewis' ultimate revenge is to stay at McLaren. Whitmarsh and Jenson will just have to hug and console each other...in that manly sort of way, of course.

I'm just saying...

Dude, if McLaren hated Lewis that much they wouldn't be making him an offer at all.

Have they publicly capitulated? I was under the impression this new offer was based of media reports, not a direct quotation.

Whitmarsh doesnt seem to like him, I cant speak for the rest of McLaren as we rarely see the rest of the staff reacting with the drivers. But Whitmarsh may just have to grit his teeth and put up with him as long as he he keeps banging in the pole positions, dragging an off song car up the grid and winning races.

One the one hand - Whitmarsh isn't paid to like him,

What's on the other hand?

Whitmarsh likes him as a bonus?

Oh, I thought you were going to go with; on the other hand, it's his job to get the most out of his drivers.

But that would be incompatible to him being paid to like Lewis if getting the most out of his drivers is dependent on it, the hands anaolgy is used to show two apparently conflicting arguments that have to be balanced against it each other, not one argument resolutely defeating the other.
