The top three drivers in today’s testing session at the Circuit de Catalunya set impressive lap times on the Spanish track.

Jenson Button finished the day with the quickest time, only a few hundreds of a second ahead of the Renault drivers. These three men’s performances are only four tenths of a second from the track record held by Button since 7 April 2004: 1’13”552.

Looks like they are now almost as quick as with the old V10's ? What's the point ?

You could argue that if they hadn't reduced the engine size, they would have been even quicker - SO WHAT ?????

When did we have the last serious accident which could be blamed on speed ? Could it have been prevented by introducing 120 hp 4-cylinder engines ?

It's funny, the FIA said that moving to V8s would be cheaper than staying with existing V10s. But now we have some teams who've gone away after 2005 and spent a fortune on developing a completely new engine, and some that will continue to run a V10! The FIA, namely Max Mosley, should be taken to task for exhibiting such gross ignorance toward a sport they're meant to responsible for!

It's a sham.

Exactly ! Keeping rules and regulation CONSTANT is the only way of saving cost. Actually it is the only way of establishing a budget !
