Ferrari
Alonso - 12**
Massa - 1

In fairness to Alonso, he wasnt "outqualified" by Massa, he was robbed by a mechanical issue and still put a pretty respectable time up considering. It seems had the issue not occurred then Fernando would most likely have had pole, tow or no tow - he was quickest in Q1 and Q2. Sounds from Montezemelo's comments of an "easy pole" that Ferrari werent showing their hand and still had pace to deploy.

I think if fairness was the guide by which to judge results, Things would be different for other drivers too, not just Alonso. Lewis, for example, would have 5 poles instead of 4...the fifth from his pole run in Catalunya. Based on his pace, he would have run away with the win as well. Instead, his team tried to be cheeky and Lewis paid the price. I've learned, in F1, fairness matters not.

Yeah, if there's any driver most affected by what ifs in this season, it's Lewis alright.

Round 14 qualifying over and I must say, there is one particular guy I've begun to notice...one Michael Schumacher. He's beginning to feel his oats against his team-mate. Seems Nico's dominance over Schumi has come to an end. They are very equal in race pace but Schumi is definitely sorting himself out in qualifying. I have to admit a bit of disappointment in Webber's Singapore quali run. I thought he would have gone well here, being closer to Seb and ahead of Alonso. He's pretty good on tight street circuits, ala Monaco. Well, here we go...

Half a second clear of the field...lets see what Lewis does from the front and how the Maldonado/Vettel/Alonso situation shakes out behind him.

Oops...fell a bit behind this weekend. Suzuka told us a lot about where Ferrari stand on development, what Lewis is up against post-AMG announcement and Grosjean still a right first-lap plunker. But I digress...they had to qualify first:

More stats update, Headless.

As I go over these results, it occurred to me that one of the boasts of McLaren (Whitmarsh & Uncle Ron) is that they have the best driver pairing in F1. Umm...the results don't seem to reflect anything remotely close to that. It's very one-sided. A good driver pairing is one where the team-mates are both performing at a reasonably high and equal level. At the sharp end, Red Bull clearly have the best pairing, sans a drivers title for Webber. Just an observation.

Two things in that, firstly to find a great pairing you need to look at their finishing results too, maybe Hamilton is just faster in quali, Button has only ever got one pole for McLaren remember.

Secondly, why is Hulkenburg moving to a better team, when clearly Di Resta is better, this angers me.

I prefer the Hulk

Di Resta is calculating, and don't forget he's beaten Vettle and Rosberg in equal cars in other Forumulas and was very successful in DTM.

No way to prove Di Resta is better...Hulk is ahead of him in the standings, and has done something majorly impressive (Brazil pole) while Di Resta has been a journeyman collecting points. Solid but no spark.
