I suppose it's a little like Williams taking on pay drivers, ok they don't get great drivers who don't deliver what the car can do, but it's only with the money they were able to get such a good car in the first place, maybe McLaren are hoping to spend less on Lewis, that way they can reinvest in their car, convincing Lewis as it'll increase his chances of getting another title, leading to more money.

That doesn't really explain Sauber though, although I think Perez is bringing in money, Kobayashi just wants them to pay more than his dad's sushi restaurant and Toyayta did invest in staff and facilities it's just their corporate management structure and style was unsuitable for F1.

And on Ron Dennıs sayıng Lewıs would have to take a pay cut.

To be honest, I think that is a bit of brinkmanship on the part of Ron Dennis, trying to negotiate the salary down, more than likely Lewis is asking for more money and McLaren don't want to pay it, it'll probably end up the same as his current wage, assuming negotiations continue... Hamilton says "I want 25% more", Dennis says "OK, I'll offer you 15% less".

Ferrari would double whatever McLaren offers Lewis, if Lewis wants to go to the scuderia. Red Bull would pay off Webber's contract so fast, they'd even expand his pub and put in a large screen TV as compensation for breaking his 2013 contract. Beyond that? Mercedes would also pay. Lotus? I don't know.

So ultimately Lewis will stay at McLaren if he wants to, and it won't be for money obviously. It's the details of the contract he signs that we'd all love to see.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Even if that's true, wouldn't another way to write that be Hamilton extends/renews his contract with McLaren for 2013?

Why would he sign so early for 2014, that loses impetus for him in McLaren for 2013 since he'd be considered the 'outsider' even before the season begins.
