I believe McLaren want to have Lewis Hamilton in the team but not at his current salary; which is fair to be honest. If Mercedes are willing to pay him $60m over three years, and if money is more important than driving for a team that has a race winning car, then good riddance to him. I just don't see Mercedes being a title contender in three years, even with Ross Brawn in charge!

There are a lot of drivers out there that will take much less money to drive for McLaren that are potentially as fast as Hamilton, Sergio Perez for example!

I remember their 1st season together everyone was touting how great the atmosphere was and how fair and equal and happy everyone was. i wonder what happened.

Lewis mentioned (it was quoted) somewhere that he doesnt pay attention to what Ron dennis says because Whitmarsh is his boss. Obviously, Lewis would rather have Dennis in.

I hope Lewis goes to mercedes. He'll have a blast with Maldonado, Grosjean et al, in the midfield. Literally.

He's already having a blast with Grosjean and Maldonado while in a McLaren.

Anyway, everyone's probably thinking about the 2014 reg change right now. Mercedes as a constructor would be more ready compared to their customers in terms of engine dimensions and chassis specifications which makes a significant difference. The risk Lewis might be taking with Mercedes is their development pace. I don't know if they have the development pace of the top 3 teams right now, if they have convinced him they have it from 2014 onwards I can understand the risk.

Something to think of, will Merc be around for the long term? I sincerely doubt it unless they start mixing it regularly with the big 3. At the moment their a lucky 5th with Sauber on a charge only 26 points behind. Unless there is a major change in fortunes I reckon 2013 will be Merc's last (as a manufacturer team at least).

I know! It lasted thrice as long as the Alonso pairing. At least Button got a chance to beat Lewis as a team mate. Something that Alonso isn't able to claim. Maybe some day, maybe some day.

He should stay at McLaren. Should he go? I don't think so. What's going to happen? I don't know. I'm I getting tired of the media and chatter about it? Yes. But it won't abate until a decision has been made.

If McLaren want Lewis to go, all the have to do is under fuel his car in Q3 once again. :hehe:

BBC Reports: McLaren say 2013 car design is based on Lewis Hamilton staying.

Which would indicate that McLaren want him to stay, wouldn't you say?

It could if you chose to view it that way. Do you think the whole hubbub is that perhaps they're offering Lewis less money than Button is making?

I don't think that they'd be offering less than Button, probably the same, even if it is less, you could argue that money is more important than titles for Hamilton!

You're so naive. That's what you say to the media. That's not what one group of lawyers tells another group of lawyers. I honestly do think that's the most logical explanation for it all, is that Lewis has felt insulted by McLaren's offer of it perhaps being less than Jenson.

Regardless of money, read my second point (highlighted)... ;)

I will never believe McLaren are stupid enough to offer him less money than they are paying the lesser driver...I mean come on, zero logic in that. I think it might be a case of an equal amount (which is still an insult) or maybe an amount much lesser than he was expecting anyway.

He keeps saying he 'wants to win' when questioned by the media. I think it's more a case of him wanting importance and focus from the team in recognizing that he can be a team leader just like what Alonso has with Ferrari. In McLaren, they are wasting their time with 50-50 (especially after the fiasco of spending valuable time in trying to solve Buttons problems in his slump) attention. Mercedes have probably offered a much higher pay packet AND a promise to make him a team leader which is a very lucrative offer....when you know at McLaren that NoGrip is going to stick around for the next 3-4 years and the team will continue wasting their time with his NoGrip issues.
