Just as it says...

It's just business. I don't like Apple winning so handsomely against Samsung, or winning at all...but if they can set up a good jury and try and beat down their competitors, why would they stop? Business ethics? Ethics is just a front for 99% of profit driven businesses out there, the golden rule for all senior managements is if money can be made legally, and in some cases illegally (without being caught), the project will be given a green light. Morality and ethics are looked at as a deterrent to profits in many cases.

I have never associated ethics and corporate business; I realise that it's business but business on this public scale is damaging to Apple more than anyone, their image has been tarnished, the packaging is torn. general public opinion of Apple has fallen while highlighting Samsung and the Android OS. It could well be the best billion dollars Samsung has ever spent!

The silly thing is that most of the patents that Apple won the case on can be easily fixed by a software update, things like the bounce back response. Apple won the patent case but did they really win? How many people who were considering Apple products will now buy a Samsung product because they are more aware of the Samsung brand and of Android in general. The hardcore Apple fans will buy Apple and the hardcore Android fans will buy Android, but most buyers are swing buyers and will buy whatever is cool and relevant at the time, also in these dire financial times, value for money is very important, Android wins the value battle hands down! The cheapest iPhone 5 costs $199 with a new two year contract while many Samsung phones are free with a two year contract!

It could swing the other way as well: people may think, oh look, Apple was right, they won - we need to support our American company against those copycats!
Also, you can get an iPhone 3 for free and an iPhone 4S for $99.

What I find amusing in all of this, is that arguments being thrown at Apple for their mobile device platforms, are the very arguments thrust at Microsoft for their PC OS.

The more things change...

You mean the American company that manufactures their product for relative pennies in China! Hence why an import ban would hurt Apple as much as it would Samsung!

That's a good point, but besides the point I was making. And Apple has many employees here in the US as well. Apple is not a manufacturing company. They’re a design and marketing company, and those jobs are mostly in the US.

Don't kid yourself. They choose to be a design/marketing company only because it's cheaper to build stuff in China. The United States was founded on manufacturing, not design and marketing. It would be really really difficult to become a global super power if you were only adept at design and marketing.

Wake up! The founders are dead - it's a new time in which we are living. And even the computer manufacturers who don't claim to be solely a design and marketing company manufacture their wares in China!

I'm investing in Africa for when Chinese labor becomes too expensive. The point is that there is no allegiance to anything but the dollar, and Apple is no more an altruistic company that Nokia or Google, or Ferrari, or Ben & Jerr.... wait, Ben & Jerry's do kick ass.

Haha everyone manufactures s*** in china, taking a dig at apple for that?? Really?

Yes, that's true, from a business point of view it makes sense to maximise profits... but when I hear people claim AMERICAN COMPANY, like they support the entire country's financial infrastructure when the vast majority of their operation is in Asia, it annoys me! Their design and marketing departments are tiny in comparison to their manufacturing workforce in China.

RIM is a Canadian company like Apple should be and American company. Too bad they did a Motorola and rested on their laurels, but they show you can own a segment and innovate while manufacturing in the west, not China.

you can tell it's not a race weekend when the busiest thread is Apple.
