SV is having a pretty darn good season driving-wise with a rather (at most circuits) uncompetitive car. You could say he's punching above his weight or he's pulling an FA, i.e., getting more and a little extra out of a car that in most other hands would be less impressive. His Red Bull was the slowest of all cars in the speed trap yesterday and yet he's qualified up there :yikes:

On the CRASH website I read a News article where Luca Monty has quite blatantly said, "it's too early for Perez to come to Ferrari. He wants Vettel."

Sergio Perez has been all but ruled out of a drive with Ferrari for the 2013 F1 season after Luca di Montezemolo said it was 'too early' for the Mexican to be considered for a drive.

Perez secured his third podium finish of the season at Monza after an impressive drive through the field, which saw him pass both Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa in the closing stages of the race.

The performances from the former GP2 racer, a member of Ferrari's Driver Academy, have seen him hotly tipped with Massa's drive if the Brazilian finds himself dropped at the end of the year.

However, speaking to Sky Sports, di Montezemolo said he wasn't sure that Perez had the experience required to move into a Ferrari race seat even if he was impressed with he results he has secured so far in his second season in the sport.

"Next season is too early," he said. "I'm very pleased for him because first of all it showed that our choice when we picked up him as a young driver was good. Then it is thanks to Sauber, thanks to the Ferrari Academy, he grow up.

"To put a young guy to Ferrari with the pressure of Ferrari, you need more experience."

Di Montezmolo added that one man who he would welcome into the Ferrari line-up with open arms if he became available was defending champion Sebastian Vettel, who he said reminded him of a young Michael Schumacher.

"I think that Vettel is more or less in the condition like when Michael was in Benetton,” he said. "He's young, he's a very good driver and he's making a very good experience. So this could be, of course in the theory, but if you have to ask me the name I have to tell you this name."

I think that a future Vettel and Alonso pairing at Ferrari is all-but-confirmed now. I didn't realize Vettel is stuck with Red Bull until 2014. I say that in a negative tone, because I am disgruntled with all the finger-pointing and slowing down of Red Bull's car in the past couple of seasons.

If Vettel was able to make it to Ferrari in 2014, then a Schumacher swansong at Ferrari would be legitimate. However, if they are looking for someone to race for 2 years, then Hamilton or Kovaleinen at Ferrari next year makes more sense.

Vettel has well-and-truly proved his worth this year, and his desire to win is pulsing through his veins. You can imagine some very fiery conversations are happening behind closed doors at Milton Keynes. I wonder if he has an out-clause should Red Bull produce a flop next year... :scratchchin:

In much more tragic news, Maldonado is also contracted with Williams for 2014... :irked:

Not 100% sure about that, read something interesting (and extremely plausible) earlier, that this whole Perez situation is related to money, and Ferrari are basically trying to get more money from Carlos Slim (big Perez backer), hence Monty's recent comments playing down the link. But who knows really. The flip side being that this whole Vettel to Ferrari thing reminds me of the Raikkonen deal that was being rumoured in 2005, basically on a similar timescale to these Vettel rumours. Either way, imo a top driver like Vettel is mad to walk into Alonso's den....

I'd love to see Vettel at Ferrari as well. That may or may not happen, 2014 will be a banner year as most of the speculation is that it will be more about engines than aero, and it's probably going to cause the biggest stir in the sport we've had in a handful of years. I do find it puzzling that you say there's been a finger pointing and slowing down of the Red Bull cars... by whom? Are you saying that they're being unfairly targeted by the FIA other F1 teams? Rules are rules, and if Red Bull is skilled in circumventing them, there is nothing wrong by clarifying those rules so that they're not being abused. There's also a difference from last year's EBD issues where most teams on the grid were doing it, versus what Red Bull alone was doing this year when the rule was clarified for them. Additionally there's the ride height issue where (since Hungary) Red Bull and the master of qualifying Sebastian Vettel has had a heck of a time doing what came so easily to him last year. Circumstantially, that's pretty difficult to overlook.

How anyone can say that he's doing a masterful job of handling a below par car and doing for Red Bull what Alonso is doing for Ferrari is a laughable statement. Alonso is one of two current drivers to have won three GPs this year, Massa, Zero. Vettel has won two GPs this year, Webber two. They're separated in points by a whisker. How is he outshining Webber in the same capacity as Alonso is outshining Massa?

Same question burning in my mind as well.

Vettel only has one win, compared to Webber's two.
