I think the infighting and the lack of an experienced team leader will cause some problems for them this year.

I feel that Lewis is more than capable of being the team leader so to speak. I have alway's been very impressed by his decorum and and the way he handle's himself. I dont percieve to see any 'infighting' amongst Lewis and Heikki such as there seemed to be between Lewis and Fernando.

That's because Heikki is doing what he is told.

Kudos to Alonso for last season, I had a lot of respect for him after Hungary!

I meant the infighting from last year (sorry did not make myself clear)

With Lewis and Heikki IMO I do not feel that either of them are experienced enough to lead the team forward enough technically, I know DLR is 3rd driver but a car built around him might not be best for the race drivers. I hope that McLaren have enough technical depth to fight on and win.

I think it has more to do with the kind of people Lewis and Heikki are.

Alonso's skill 'in the cockpit' was never in doubt it's just his 'out of the cockpit' antic's that has tainted him, possibly for his entire career.

Mr. Snuggles,
What do you NOT understand about the meaning of going 'off topic'? This thread is about the MP4-23 and nothing else ok, keep 'on-topic', it's getting very tiresome. Dont even reply to this comment, get it now  !

Seems like you could be fighting a losing battle there Tex. For some reason a lot of the threads on here are going way O/T at the moment, usually related to JB.

Nope, it was the year that we saw his real character. Infact it wasn't just last year, he was acting like a tw@ for most of 2006, complaining that he wasn't getting equal treatment from Renault because he'd signed the McL deal.

Yes i think it was after him not winning in China he claimed the Renault team were against him because he was leaving. Im sure after Schumachers engine blew in Japan they were on his side again in his mind....

the new mclaren car does like a challenging car, but it won't be able to touch the likes of the ferrari
but we wont know exacly what will happen by race day?

The testing times show clearly that it's going to between McLaren and Ferrari. As a McLaren fan, I haven't been as optimistic probably since 1998 and 1999. After the events of last season, it's a wonder McLaren are even going to be in the mix at all in 2008. It's a great story and the spirit of the team has really shone.

Hamilton and Kovalainen get on well and Kovalainen is not a subversive, jealous snake like Alonso. Hamilton wants equality and that's what will be happening until one driver is out of the title race and the other maybe needs some help (assuming McLaren in the title race).

From autosport.com:

Hamilton upbeat about testing progress

By Jonathan Noble Thursday, February 28th 2008, 10:36 GMT

Lewis Hamilton, McLaren, in Barcelona testingLewis Hamilton believes McLaren's new MP4-23 is in 'good' shape for the start of the season, although he is well aware that the team have plenty more work to do in their fight with Ferrari.

McLaren appeared to have a slight edge over Ferrari on single-lap pace in the final pre-season test at Barcelona in Spain this week, although they may be slightly behind when it comes to race-distance runs.

Hamilton has said he is upbeat, however, about how McLaren's winter testing preparations have gone - especially the last week.

"Winter testing has gone really smoothly," he said in an interview with the McLaren website. "We have had steady reliability and the car is feeling good. We have had some great testing days, easily covering the mileage and getting confidence in the car."

Speaking about the final test he said: "It has been a good week, in addition to the test development programme we have been working with the race team on getting back up to speed with activities such as pitstops.

"As I just said, the car is feeling good, but as always we still have work to do. A Formula One car is under continuous evolution, and when you look back at how far we have come since the MP4-23 first hit the track in January, it is encouraging.

"The work doesn't stop for anyone just because testing has concluded."

Hamilton's delight at the progress over the winter has been echoed by teammate Heikki Kovalainen, who joined the team in December.

"We have improved the car, I have improved myself and I have gotten to know the team better," said the Finn. "Everything has just very positive; there haven't been any negative moments.

"Of course some days are more difficult than others but we are making progress all the time. So overall a very good winter and we have the pace to have a strong year."
