Only just found this thread, cant belive its so close (the voting not Lew and Jens :hehe: )

Think Redbull will wrap up the WCC again this year :( but hopefully Lewis for the WDC  (and what a year it would be to win it)

During the race, a friend sent me a message saying maybe everyone's switched back to Bridgestones except for Button. :hehe:

I don't believe it's just tyres that is causing Jenson to be so far down the pecking order; to finish seven places lower than where he started in a McLaren without making mistakes has to be another issue, I think we all agree that Lewis has a natural speed advantage over Jenson, but traditionally Jenson brings home the points by out-strategising and sensible smooth driving, which is why I believe it would normally even out over the course of a season. Jenson may not be the best driver on the grid, but he is not as bad as 16th place in a race winning car!

Maybe JB got some pointers from Badoer...:twisted:

:nono:

No Badoer bashing.

Jenson had a strong lead before the season started! :hehe:

It's a long way from being over in both championships, but Jenson needs to recover swiftly if McLaren are going to challenge properly for the WCC.:pray:

Whitmarsh has given him a big leg up.

Has Jenson left his mid-season struggles behind him?

I wouldn't say so, Spa is a unique circuit particularly with the weather massively affecting track conditions, at other tracks drivers and teams will be better at working out the setup, reducing an advantage I think Jenson has in that area.

Whether this signals a resurgence for Jenson or just a good event, we just don't know, only time will tell but setting three lap times good enough for pole is a great achievement. Compared to Lewis, we can't comment as they went for very different setups, JB took the new wing, LH reverted to the old wing thinking it was faster, clearly not in this case!

He took the old wing because it felt better andhe was advised by the team that the difference was minimal and the old one would be faster in quali.
Fart useless piece of advise that was!

It still might have been minimal. Maybe it wasn't the wing.

Jenson intentionally ran a low-downforce setting, which gave him a great advantage, but will it pay off during the race, when they won't be going as fast due to fuel and limited DRS?

You can not blame the team for that; Lewis made the ultimate decision; how many times has Jenson gone against the team, with varying levels of success, the driver has to take responsibility!

Okay... here's what I've got to say about that. Because you can't have it both ways. So it's Lewis fault when the decision to put on a wing that ultimately is not as good. Fine, I get that the driver bears ultimate responsibility, even if his job is to drive. The engineers scrutinize the data and in the end I think it was just a poor decision on the part of everyone. No harm done, McLaren today had the fastest car by a country mile.

So what's the hubub bub? Well, when Button spent half a season blaming the car for its no grip woes, its massive understeer and its lack of pace while his team mate was five or ten spots up the grid whose fault was it then? You know you can't have it both ways.

Strictly speaking from a McLaren fan point of view, and taking off your Button fan button... you know today's result was a gift for having made the right call. No need to defend it no need to attack it. I hope he goes on and takes the win if he can.

It seems he takes an alternative to Lewis whenever he can, since he knows he's going to be behind Lewis in equal material anyway.

Reminds me of Monza a couple of years back, McLaren again had 2 different specs...to run the F-duct or not and these two took different directions and in qualifying it seemed Button had made the better choice. No one in the team knew it would be better, but Button had taken it simply because it gives him the chance to be faster than Lewis, and it's exactly what's happened in Spa as well. Good for him, as I said he's the master gambler of F1 and generally his odd decisions pay off big time for him.

A few bits of information. Im not going to comment(I'll explode) . Just give the information.

Jenson-in the Sunday Times..."Sunday's have been good over the last few years, but Saturdays have not gone perfectly. I have a style which makes it difficult to make the car work in qualifying but, when it does, I get pole"

Whimarsh acredited the pole to a superb lap from Jenson-no mention of the wing.

Lewis' tweets have all been deleted.

....Okay, now why would his tweets have to be deleted.

Are McLaren trying to say "Jenson is really 0.9s faster than Lewis when he is comfortable with the car" ? Because if they are, they must think all F1 fans are mentally retarded.
