I know we have a funny pic/vid thread, but after the slight off topic on the 'RIP Neil' Thread, I thought we could do with our own Stand Up thread.

Some of the classics I love -

There was one other comedian I WAS going to put up, because I thought he was a genius when I was a teen. But I have since come to realise maybe wasnt actually that funny or clever, and has me pondering the question...... Bill Hicks - comedy genius or self-important obnoxious twat?

So give us some of yours....

Bill Hicks was probably a bit of both though if you look at other comedians who go in for the more political stuff they tend to be obnoxious twats (especially the "posh" ones who do nothing but bash Tories and public schools whilst at the same time conveniently ignoring their own background and the background of the crowd they support).

I tend to like a bit of Billy Connolly, Lee Evans, Ross Noble, Bill Bailey, Frankie Boyle, Les Dawson and Rich Hall to name a few. Spike Milligans stand up stuff is good but he was more radio and sketch based.

Given the guys you've put up there. I've just realized that comedy is regional. Comedy needs to be about things we know and are familiar with, hence why I'm not familiar with any of those faces. interesting.

You must know about Reginald D Hunter, Eddie Izzard and Billy Connolly?

I was watching an interview earlier with Reg D. and he didnt start doing stand up until he came to Britain 14 years ago. He came here to try to train in classical acting.

I thought Izzard was quite well known in the states - Not sure how big Billy is outside of the UK?

Izzard had a following here but there's a difference stateside between a following and a successful career. I think there is a massive amount of competition here. And of course, popularity doesn't actually equal funny.

Everyone on here should know about Eddie Izzard! Not a days goes by without one of his clips popping up thanks to DD. :hehe:

I thought Billy Connolly would be pretty well known given he's been in a few films over the years. I think he is pretty big in Australia.

I'd post some Frankie Boyle clips but people seem to get needlessly upset whenever he says something funny.

Bernard Manning anyone? :D

Just go for it. If anyone gets upset or offended it's thier problem for being too delicate!

Yes Billy Connolly is very funny. Thoufgh I've heard some of his recent shows have beena bit off with him using opld material and being really rude to the audience. He used to really make me laugh though.
Also Michael mcIntyre-he just gets people so spot on.

And John Bishop.

Michael McIntyre is terrible. All he does is shout and screech. I just don't get what people find funny about him. John Bishop is ok.
