It seems to me that the podiums are really over the top. I mean, for the champagne, they have someone yelling CHAMPAAAAAGNE!!!!!!! and then they have some famous person interviewing the podium finishers. It might just be me but it makes me cringe a bit inside. I know they [the F1 organisers] are trying hard, but I think they might be trying too hard. I mean when Kimi got that podium in Hungary he seemed unimpressed and that made it look all the more awkward to be up there in front of all those people. It would all seem much more natural if the winners were given more space instead of seemingly being instructed by commentators and interviewers. Especially just after the race and they have cameras in the room just before the podium platform. It might be nicer for the drivers to have a breathing space before the podium. The podium would be good enough just with the national anthem of the driver and champagne [without the voice] and i see no need for famous people to ask the drivers questions that are either obvious or are up to speculation. Especially when there is a press conference straight after. Anyway, yeah. Be sure to post your thoughts of the podiums and what you think of them and hello to you all since I only just registered :wavey:

I don't have to say anything - you've said it all for me. Agree with absolutely everything you've said. I don't like the new podium stuff one bit. Cringe is a highly appropriate term.

I also agree, I thought it was a one off thing the first time I saw the podium interviews, but then it happened again. I guess the idea is to allow the spectators at the track see and hear more than they would with the post race press conference. For the TV viewing audience, it does seem very cringeworthy indeed, hopefully it's a fad and will disappear before the end of the season.

Agreed. It was okay as a special occasion in Silverstone since the fans had a hard time and showed their dedication to the sport.

Giving interviews on the podium is unnecessary, it's a place for the drivers to celebrate and enjoy...not be forced into something which they might not want to do at the time since they'd still be cooling down from the race.

I thought it was good with Jackie Stewart at Silverstone and good for the fans to see a bit of an interview, I don't know if it was Lauda or something else but I didn't like it at Hockenheim and I didn't see the Hungarian podium.
