I think everyone hoped that he would be just as good. To start of with I thought he was just in F1 because of his name. Now I think he is in F1 because of his talent, however he is not the next messiah, he is another journeyman.

Maybe, or maybe just becoming a victim of circumstance, first the lost seat at Brawn which could have set things on a very different path, now perhaps the Williams seat will be lost for Bottas, which i think would be harsh on the guy.

Don't forget that this season he has lost setup time each race to make way for Bottas in P1, having to do the setup and learn the track properly in perhaps only 60% of the time that Maldonado has. That is quite a huge loss of track time!

Well i agree he had huge expectation on him and didn't have the opportunities. But I think he's capable of more than a journeyman. Not as great as his uncle though, his uncle would have nailed something by now. He'd certainly have seen off that **** Maldonado.Maybe Im too much the romantic and really really want him to do well. But he has the talent and showed it in GP2. Its not fair that he has to keep giving the car up every Friday. And he's nice........maybe that's the problem?

Former Renault F1 driver Nelson Piquet has criticised both Lotus drivers, branding Romain Grosjean 'lucky' and Kimi Raikkonen 'weak'.

The 27-year-old says Grosjean, who replaced Piquet at Renault in 2009, has only stood out this season because he's been paired with a weak team-mate in the form of Raikkonen who returned to F1 this year after a two-year absence.

"He has got a lot of luck, [which has] come at a time when his team-mate is a little weak and has a very good car," Piquet told TotalRace.

"His luck is that he was not doing well in F1, another season of GP2, landed a sponsorship deal and returned to F1 paying, right? Then things went right for, how do you say, in his career. The timing was very good for him."

Erm, lol? Hope that chip on his shoulder isn't slowing his NASCAR truck down too much...

Oh my goodness, they are some immense sour grapes. And in saying such things, he only serves to devalue himself and what he has to say even more so.

To be fair, what Piquet says is harsh but it isn't far off being spot on.

Raikkonen isn't at his best form yet, which is understandable after being out of F1 for a couple years and having no in-car time between races. When Grosjean had his first go at F1 he was no better and was arguably worse than Piquet. He's in a pretty good car but he has lost quite a few points I think. Going forward, I expect Grosjean to be found out and Raikkonen to find his form, if he is motivated enough and his head doesn't go down.

Of course given what has gone before with Piquet any criticism or comment coming from him, no matter how justified, will be written off as sour grapes.

Grosjean came into an extremely volatile environment in 2009, I think the Renault also had Kers? After that he went away for a few years doing other formula and absolutely dominated GP2 (Asia and European series) in 2011. I think even in 2009 and 2010 he had a good record.

I think he's a real talent, and has shown some great pace, it takes time for drivers to bed into modern F1, I think he's performed as well as any new or newish drivers we've seen since the ban of testing. Only guy I think has performed better as a newcomer is Kobayashi, he out scored Trulli a few times in 2009 didn't he?

It's just the other rookies(Hulkenburg, Di Resta, Perez, Maldonaldo) didn't start in cars with as much promise as this years Lotus, Grosjean has had a higher bar reach. Lotus have also made some dubious strategy calls, and there was the failed alternator in Valencia where he was on for third.
