Button not ready for support role
Button's slump in form between his last two podium finishes in the Chinese GP in April and the German GP earlier this month in which he picked up just seven points in six races resulted in him tumbling a long way down the Drivers' Standings.

Drivers' title standings: top eight

1. Alonso 164 points
2. Webber 124 points
3. Vettel 122 points
4. Hamilton 117 points
5. Raikkonen 116 points
6.Rosberg 77 points
7. Button 76 points
8.Grosjean 76 points
A sixth place finish last weekend in Hungary saw him drop a further two points to championship leader Fernando Alonso and means he will return from the August summer breaking needing to bridge a points gap of 88 points in nine races, more than the equivalent of three race victories.

Team-mate Hamilton, meanwhile, is 41 points better off in the standings following his victory at the Hungaroring and appears McLaren's only realistic hope of landing just their second Drivers' title since 1999 this season.

But with nearly half the season still to run, Button says his focus remains on scoring as many race victories himself as possible and only if and when he is out of the title running himself would he act as a rear gunner for Hamilton.

"I'm going to help the team get as many points as they can," The Daily Telegraph quoted the 2009 World Champion as saying.

"If I am leading a race, then I want to win that race. That's what racing drivers do. We don't have a No1 and a No2 driver in this team.

"If there comes a time in this championship when I can't win, then I will obviously help my team-mate. But there's a long way to go and a long time before I will feel I am in that position."

Button unhappy with team stratagy
Although acknowledging Alonso's overall lead was "massive" at this stage of the campaign, Button is convinced that such is the current level of competitiveness at the front of the field that all drivers in contention will drop points.

"Fernando's lead is massive still. He is 40 points ahead of anyone," Button was quoted as saying by the Guardian. "Even if he finishes fifth in every race, the guys in front are going to be fighting it out for points. Not one person will win the next four races.

Button reinterates there is no one and two at McLaren. And whilst he also acknowledged this at the beginning of the year, he also said without a one/two strategy it would be almost impossible to compete with the likes of Alonso(I think at the time he was implying he would be that number1 challenging Alonso, he's not mentioning it anymore)

The thing is he's a win and a half away from Lewis, just like Lewis is a win and a half away from Alonso. I don't fault the guy for wanting to compete, but we all know how it ends. I just hope it's the ending I want. :hehe:

Oh I agree WB. I dont think Jenson should ride shotgun yet, despite the disadvantage it will give Lewis over Alonso. I just think he's maybe a little hypocritical about it.

He's probably the biggest hypocrite on the grid. As always, sunny smiles for the camera but there's a reason I dislike him a bit more than Alonso now...Alonso is straight up and open about being a d*ck when he wants to be, this guy isn't but is still one.

He's sneaky.

Good point WB. Now, the real question is between the two, who is more likely to get that win and a half to catch their target? Given the car, tyres, outright skill and pace, do you see Button scoring a win and 4th place before Lewis? I admire Button's can-do attitude but he's kidding himself if he thinks he's gonna find that much grip suddenly. I dare say, you'll get the ending you want.

I'm just saying...

Im not trying to be controversial here, just to get a reaction, but I really am not fussed about Spa.

I know the following is meant to be one of the best sections of circuit on the calendar:

But I can take it or leave it.

I dont think its a bad or boring circuit. I just feel indifferent to it.
