McLaren is currently developing its own double DRS device but has not yet decided when or whether it will hit the track this season.

Mercedes has been running a double DRS since the start of the year that stalls the front wing and boosts straight-line speed when the DRS is open. The system works in a similar way to the F-ducts first introduced by McLaren in 2010, by channelling air to certain parts of the car to alter its aerodynamics.

At recent races Lotus has tested its own double DRS concept in Friday practice and McLaren's Sam Michael has now revealed to Autosport that his team has been working on one too.

"It's not like the Lotus one, but we have got a system like that," he told Autosport. "As for the chances of us bringing it, I don't know yet. We will look at all the programmes and see if it is feasible, because it requires work and it detracts from normal upgrades as well.

"So it is quite difficult to make the system work, as Lotus are discovering. But like anything in the pit lane, if we see a new idea then the guys jump on it, they analyse it and, if we decide that it will be a benefit to the team, then we will bring it."

But they're banned now! For next year. So isn't that a waste of time for Mercedes??

Officials at the Nurburgring are confident F1 will return to the venue next year after the circuit secured funding from its local government to help service its €330 million loan.

Reports last month said the circuit faced bankruptcy as its holding company was unable to pay the debts it had incurred while building new facilities at the venue. However, the Rhineland-Palatinate's state government has now agreed to release €254 million of funds to the circuit to give it time to sort out its financial situation as it emerged that circuit's interest payments were amounting to €47,000 a day.

Over the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, Bernie Ecclestone said the German Grand Prix would go back to Hockenheim for a second consecutive year if a solution could not be found. But according to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung officials are now confident the Nurburgring will be able to continue to alternate with Hockenheim.

"I am very optimistic that Formula One will come to the Nurburgring again next year," Jorg Linder, a director of the circuit's holding company, said.

I like them both, although the 2011 race at the Nurburgring certainly had the crowd on their feet. Top racing amongst the front-runners.
