Fantastic! Thank you London! Let the games begin!

But how can you have a British musical tribute and not include The Clash? The Chemical Brothers but not The Clash?

Or Pink Floyd? :cloud9:
Or Kate Bush? :cloud9:
Or The Cure? :cloud9:

ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE OPENING CEREMONY!! :cloud9::cloud9:

Finished work and nipped around the corner to the pub to watch it over a tankard of ale. VERY proud to be British. 8-)

I knew you'd like it :) . I didn't really have me down as a Nationalistic sort of person but I was proud of that. The humour, the quirkiness, the creativity, the incluiveness, use of so many children and volunteers, to give an amazing overall spectacle Very clever. I thought China's was good but this was better. It made China's look very one dimensional.

They played London Calling over one of the video bits early in the ceremony.

I loved the fact that they put the umpalumpa Pistols on though, with the Queen right there! Then later on Pretty Vacant got played, a song which i think the BBC had originally had banned when it first came out!:banghead:

I agree. And Frankie goes to Hollwood. They didn't play much but they did play the very bit it was banned for :hehe::hehe: . I love that slight irreverence.

If we're going to talk about irreverent humor, the James Bond bit takes it. That was very cool.

Similarly to Scotty, what I really like about the Olympics is the chance to see Sports you don't normally see on T.V. Well apart from swimming, that's kinda boring. But Badminton, fencing, squash, archery clay shooting etc.

The coverage should be great as well, just have to put up with an excessive level of British focus rather than focus on the sport. The interviewer for the mens cycling race, asked the winner about the British favourite, Mark Cavendish who finished 11th.

I haven't really looked into the political ,commercial or organisational side of the Olympics too much, probably best to wait until after the games. I hope there is some lasting benefit for the people who live close by.

Empty seats can be seen, shouldn't have overpriced them then! Although I don't know which organisation sets the price levels?

I've never been a fan of Vinokourov but I was glad to see him win today's road race, it's his swan son in a long cycling career and the move the made was masterful, it was as if everyone that didn't latch on to them two that instance saw their hopes immediately fade and it just became a race for bronze.

Team GB mistimed on a golden opportunity.

I wasn't pleased at all - he's a drug cheat and shouldn't be allowed to compete at the Olympics as it goes against everything they stand for.

I mentioned I wasn't a fan. and yes for that very reason... but if the guy is clean and has served all of the suspensions handed down by the UCI then there's no reason not to let him race.

I don't know a lot about race cycling but I agree. It seemed the British team had a plan and insisted on sticking to it, even in changing circumstances, quite a lot of sour grapes from the coverage, can't expect the other teams to help you out. Can cyclists mid race access information about the gaps and timings?

Okay... The London 2012 logo typeface looks horrible. It looks like it should be on a high school bulletin or a for sale flyer at a coffee shop. Amateurish to say the least. Between the Lisa Simpson logo, this, and whatever that semen looking mascot thing is, what they spent on graphics design was money thrown away.

And the BOC spent tens of millions on that design... poor value for money, I'd say!
