They all do it, though they don't always all get punished.

Come to think of it, having even just one wheel over the white line should be classed as leaving the track. If there were a brick wall on the white line they'd be knackered!

The rules state leaving the track constitutes having all four wheels over the white line that defines the track. But my point is that Vettel is as guilty as anyone of doing it and has gotten away with it many times, he did it one time too many and got busted. The Lewis Hamilton incident was different, Rosberg basically pushed Hamilton off the track, Hamilton clearly had a distinct speed advantage and did return to the track before the overtake was complete; Vettel was clear past Button before returning to the track confines.

He went of the track, true but if he hadn't there would have been a prang with Button. He was damned if he went off the track and damned if he didn't seeing as he is saying that he didn't know where Button was.

Come on, do you honestly, hand on heart, believe Vettel didnt know where button was....?

I take it at face value.

'm not saying he's innocent but like I said he was damned if he went off the track and damned if he stayed on.

How? if he stayed on the track; he would not have been punished; if he went off the track and lifted; he would have gone unpunished... he was damned by his active choice to overtake off-track!

This is still being discussed?

To the doubters of the penalty, please freeze frame at 0:07 the critical point, Vettel didn't see Button? How? Blind? Stupid? Button pressed the invisibility switch?

This was the point Vettel could choose to stay on track and let Button have the option of forcing him out/leaving him space...instead he just left the track all on his own. Penalty justified, case closed.

If he stayed on track Button would have hit him.

Maybe, maybe not. Button may have decided to take a wider line seeing Vettel straighten up and accelerate off track before getting round the corner. It doesn't matter if that's the case or not, it doesn't exempt Vettel from the rules.

Which of the two faces?

Why wouldn't it be? it was the biggest talking point of the race!

But yes, the FIA have handed down the punishment that was consistent with the crime, a post race drive-through penalty, and it could have been worse, the stewards could have excluded Vettel!

SV has a little bit more to lose than JB when we look at the championship standing. So it's understandable if he chose to take a wider line in order to avoid an entanglement that could spell a dnf.

True. But having done the overtake with all four wheels off the track, the intelligent thing would have been to give the place back. I didnt have vettel down as being that stupid.
