Yesterday, Johnny Herbert placed his bets on Fernando Alonso winning the WDC. Ironically, despite the closest season on record, what with all the different winners in the first half of the season, people are arriving at a set conclusion, and we've only watched 50% of the whole season's racing!

I think he will win it this year.

Alonso is getting the best out of what you could argue is still a poor car (especially where you look at Massa usually finishes)

As much as it hurts to say it but I think he deserves to win this year based on his performances up to now.

He's selling the Ferrari as a 'bad car' very well indeed. Easy to convince everyone, since it was a dog in Melbourne. But it has most definitely come in leaps and bounds and probably is quite an all rounder now no matter how much Alonso is trying to convince everyone he's some God driving around.

Massa matched him in a couple of recent races in race pace, but he's just very inconsistent with his pace and stupid mistakes. The Ferrari is definitely a race winning car, though Alonso is marketing himself very well it has to be said.

He performed when it counted, and won the second GP of the year with an acknowledged dog of car! The car may have come a long way since then, but come now Hammer... the guy deserved credit for what he's done.

You've just gone too deep down the doom and gloom route, it's not over yet by any stretch of the imagination. This time last year even the bookies had thrown in the towel. This year still has TEN races to go.

No doubt he's performing at his best, but I think he's trying a bit too hard to make everyone think the Ferrari is as hopeless as it was in the flyaway races the way he speaks.

It's most definitely on par with the Redbull and McLaren, and maybe even more of an all rounder. He's doing what a highly talented driver should do with it, but he's no God, come on people still think the Ferrari is a midfielder or something?

That's not the impression that I got from his interviews at Hockenheim; he was asked about "would he believe that he'd be leading the championship at the start of the season?" and he talked about the way the car was two seconds off during the final test session before the start of the season, but make reference to the improvements made at the Mugello test.

I believe the Ferrari is close to the Mercedes and Red Bull in pure speed but not quite there, Alonso is a good enough driver to make up that slight lack of speed!

Let's not make wild assumptions yet. 3/4 of the way through 2010, and everyone was CERTAIN that Alonso would lift the title, even Murray Walker! :P

Oh you... And your... Logic. This is after all the Alonso support thread.
