Vettel 5th Kimi 3rd Button 2nd

So Bieber has to give that 2nd place trophy away? I wish I could see his expression when he does that.

This is another reason why this track layout is crap, now here we are all talking about the actual confines on the track. There are like 3 or 4 corners where drivers run wide off the track on a regular basis.

I disagree when people blast post -2001 Hockenheim as a "crap layout". True, it's not as majestic and stand-out as it's predecessor, but it's by no means a poor track. Plenty of overtaking action today, with one or two moves lasting through multiple corners.

Thats fine, thats your opinion, but i just never liked this layout from day 1, and sort of felt the race was a bit lackluster, mind you we been spoilt with some good races so far this season

We can't have any more of these controversial incidents followed by inconsistent penalty / non-penalty. It should be penalty automatically then argue after whether they should be allowed to keep the place rather than keep the place and penalise after. That might alter the mindset somewhat.

I thought it had been reported before the race that Charlie insisted that if you wentt over the line you WOULD get a penalty!

I wonder if those advocating a grass strip alongside the track watched the GP3 race this morning. Apart from a nasty aerial multi-car accident at the hairpin, there was another where a car left the circuit at turn one and regaining the track along the grass, when it hit a divot and launched into the air. It came to earth with such a bang that it effectively stopped the race. It is a long time since I have seen an ambulance called to the scene of a racing car accident. I believe the driver suffered back injuries.

Proper grass is much less reliable that synthetic surfaces. That said, I think that a gravel trap would have made Seb think twice about what he was doing. The tarmac areas do seem to let drivers get away with mistakes/irresponsible driving. The gravel traps at Donnington seem to be more effective than many. If you get into the gravel there you are unlikely to get out again.

BTW No-one made more mistakes in commentary than you-know-who and he was very popular with the fans.

I agree to an extent - but the thing is that most of these types of incidents are because of the mindset of the drivers in modern racing - they simply refuse to lift - even if fully off the track. So continue at full racing speed, taking the shortest route back to track whether it's over grass, tarmac, kerbs or the local dog. Most of them have no intrinsic notion that they might be seriously injured when off the track so simply treat the area as though they were on track. There needs to be some kind of disincentive for drivers going off track, whether it's physical by way of kitty litter, electronic by way of a limiter, or in the rules such as a strict liability penalty that is automatically applied until successfully argued beyond doubt that it shouldn't be.

Amongs those suggestions, something has to be workable, and something has to be done.

So Seb got a penalty? I thought he would he was off the track for that overtake. He'd have been better off giving the place back, but that's a hard thing to do.

20 SECOND PENALTY FOR SEB

Said who ?! There's no official announcement regarding this on the F1 official site (formula1.com); care to elaborate?

It's official, came up as breaking news on a few official sites already. 5th place for Seb Bieber.

Koba gets 4th. F*** yeah.

 Another pretty awesome race by Sauber, they really deserve their current 6th place in the WCC, and are doing a better job than most teams on the grid. Shame they don't really have the resources to show this properly :(

20 SECOND PENALTY FOR SEB

:censored: joke! Draconian penalty.

Hopefully EwanM is wrong in what he's told you.

At least it didn't cost Seb as dearly as it did Nando when he passed the Kube and got done at Silverstone in 2010
