Before the inevitable argument breaks out i'll just give my opinion on the incident - simply put, Vettel would not have passed Button had he not gone off the track. Ergo by leaving the track he gained an advantage - simple. Vettel was trying to argue that the painted area is 'slippery' etc (while conveniently ignoring the bit where it allowed him to retain momentum), but the basic fact is he gained an advantage by leaving the track...

Very diplomatic answer from Jenson "Watch it on Sky Sports and decide for yourself".

Too bad Sky Sports is pay for view, should we pay to decide ourselves ? :)

I'm sure that if it was a BBC reporter asking the questions, he would have said "Watch it on the BBC and decide for yourself", which non Sky Subscribers can do later today!

I can say the same about Hamilton and Alonso during Bahrain's race, nothing happened, no penalties were handed. So, it would be unfair to have some ppl unpunished and other punished for the same kind of situation, as it is, the stewards will not penalize Vettel but probably they will have a say regarding future situations like this ones.

Mi ingrish hurts ivan miself :) (cheap attempt to excuse myself for obvious english spelling and grammar mistakes)

Any update on what the Verdict on the pass is?

Not yet.......

Damn, hope we hear something soon. All 4 of Vettel's wheels were off the track, so they can't ignore this, this should be a 20 second penalty minimum IMO.

Same was regarding Hamilton and Alonso during Bahrain GP, no penalties were given to them. Don't think it will be different this time, tho I think FIA will have a clear stance regarding this kind of situations.

The simple answer would be have grass immediately outside the white line and gravel a car's width from the edge of the edge of the track.

Ahhh the days of grass and gravel........ both seem like an endangered species, unfortunately.

As Martin Brundle pointed out, if grass and gravel were as they were, about 2 people would've finished FP in one piece!

I agree completely. That's the way it should be. Would force the drivers to actually have a bit more respect for what is and isn't the track. All of this controversy, and that of races gone past, would be completely avoided for the future.

Ah, but the driving mentality would have been different; the reason so many cars go off is because they know they can push the limits without penalty!
