Bottom line is that the McLaren is slow compared to it's main rivals, qualifying seventh and eighth is piss poor for a team with the resources and talent of McLaren.

We didn't get the whole story today. Had it remained dry, I'm confident McLaren would've nailed pole. They'd have been further up than 6th and 7th, at any rate!

Despite the propaganda from the drivers about the upgrades; I don't believe they have made that big a jump; it was dry on race day in Silverstone and look what happened there!

If a lapped car is faster, is it allowed to overtake in order to unlap?

I honestly don't know the rule regarding this...

If a lapped car is faster it is free to unlap itself (unless Senna is the slower car and Irvine is unlapping himself, in which case the bigger name has a hissy fit! ).

Even if I hate DRS as it is not a fair meaning to pass the car in front, as it is right now, this system should not be allowed for use in case when the car in front is 1 lap ahead nor when a lapped car is in front. DRS should be used only for cars that are in the same lap.
Anyway, DRS must go away, it's not an equalizer, it's a show killer.

I think we have Hamilton's overtake and another one I can't remember done while out of circuit as precedent in a previous GP. To be honest I'm glad no incidents happened this time (Vettel vs Button).

Yup. It has to be a 20 second time penalty, nothing else makes sense as he did gain an advantage, and did gain points as a result. Not the same as, say, if it were Grosjean overtaking Senna down in 16th / 17th, where the grid penalty at the next race might be more appropriate.

Lap 35/67 - Hamilton Pulls away from Vettel and starts to close on Alonso. This is a very unusual situation, but in theory Hamilton is doing nothing wrong.

The less points Alonso and Vettel get the better for Lewis,can't help a puncture so roll on next week.

The car is fast and that's what we wanted to see so it's happy days from here on.

Next week the car will be 4th best again and Hamilton will finish 4th or 5th and Button in 9th or 10th. Story of Hamiltons season, when the car is good enough to win he gets some sh*t luck and when the car is sh*t everything goes clockwork (except pitstops).

During the race he'd have to give the place back. By the sounds of it all they need to do is swap Button and Vettel's finishing places round.

Stewards (in)consistency says that the hairpin at Hockenheim, and the first corner at Spa, you can run off track and gain advantage and nothing happens. Many people have overtaken off the track at this hairpin and nothing was done.

Sadly , Hamilton and Alonso (if irc ) set a bad precedent during the one of the first races of this year. None of them were penalized. I don't see why Vettel should be penalized this time.

There's a big difference between this and the incidents a few races ago. In that race, the question mark was over the move to defend which effectively forced the car off track off the track. That's not the case here, it was a very clear situation where Vettel had to fall back in behind Button, but made an active decision to keep his foot in and go off the track. Completely different.

That's also different because the corner at Spa is the first corner after the start, which run-offs and incidents are treated more leniently at every race as is well documented.

Nah, Lewis Hamilton was way faster than Seb at the time. Why the hell should he be held up? He has a race of his own too, even if it was ruined early on!

I knew from practice that McLaren had a good car this weekend. Great race from Jenson. If only they'd qualified well!

First of all conrgats to Fernando on a great race, and to SF for a great team effort. The F2012 really is turning into a formidable car which seems to strong in just about all conditions. As it is such a new car there is still plenty of room to improve it.

Excellent work by McLaren to bring their car back into the fight.

I'm glad Red Bull were allowed to run without penalty. It always feels great to win against an opponent who is at their best.

Comment on the Vettel passing Button - from my viewing I think Vettel should be penalised and it will probably be 20 or 25 seconds. Having said that, I would not be at all surprised if they let it go.
