If the FiA Stewards agree with Jo Bauer (their technical delegate) then my guess is they'd declare the times of the Red Bulls in qualifying invalid. They could start if they change the mappings and go to the back or pit lane.

Interesting. I have to nip off to Sainsbury's to buy next week's food, but I'll be keeping my eye on developments.

I'll be back within the hour.

Is anyone making the most of Sky's FREE WEEKEND??????????

What is this "free weekend"?

It's a weekend that you get for free. :hehe:

If you have a gadget that gets you any form of Sky type TV reception you can get Skt sports chennels for free, I think.

Less than 90 minutes to the race....can anything take place between now and then?

The Hockenheim stewards are investigating Red Bull after FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer reported that after examining the engine torque maps of the RB8s of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber after qualifying, “it became apparent that the maximum torque output of both engines is significantly less in the mid rpm range than previously seen for these engines at other events.

“In my opinion this is therefore in breach of Article 5.5.3 of the Technical regulations as the engines are able to deliver more torque at a given engine speed in the mid rpm range. Furthermore this new torque map will artificially alter the aerodynamic characteristics of both cars which is also in contravention of Technical Directive 036-11.”

Article 5.5.3 says that “The maximum accelerator pedal travel position must correspond to an engine torque demand equal to or greater than the maximum engine torque at the measured engine speed. The minimum accelerator pedal travel position must correspond to an engine torque demand equal to or lower than 0Nm.”

The FIA placed tighter restrictions on engine maps ahead of this season as part of a package of rule changes designed to eliminate the use of exhaust-blown diffusers. Bauer’s statement suggests the FIA may suspect Red Bull have found a way to circumvent the changes.

They could take action, yes, but Sky is reporting nothing will be done.

Makes the action to disq Lewis's Q look pretty harsh if that's right

If you're not paying for Sky, then Virgin Media / non-Sky Sports users can watch the Sky F1 channel for free, this weekend only.

It's being discussed in the Hockenheim race thread.

My bad. :wavey:

Does it deserve it's own thread? I'll leave the mods to decide. However, I have no idea what the problem actually is - I was under the impression they might have been accused of cheating for the past few races.

Seems to be taking quite a while for a decision to be made. Perhaps this is not as clear cut as we are led to believe? I'd have thought that with an infringement such as what this appears to be would be, the stewards would be quite quick to reach a decision.

It seems that their engine mapping was changed for qualifying I think.
