I spent today walking in the Alps, in and out of Italy and France. Sun was hot but wind keen. Wild flowers were wonderful. I was desperate to see a marmotte but didnt, I only saw their holes.

This is a place I usually ski but was the first time in summer, no road access in winter, only by ski. There are some souvenir shops at the border, well, just inside Italy. In winter they are all closed up and covered in snow, today they were open and sold mostly the usual souvenirs-stuffed marmottes, walking sticks, postcards etc, but also large amounts of booze. I expected the booze in a place like that to be extortionate, but no!! A 2 litre bottle of pastis was ten euros,TEN EUROS!!!!! Must be wrongly priced!! Id bought a bottle at the local supermarket the day before for 10 euros, but for 75cl's!! Genepi also priced at 11euros, which is well cheap!! Not sure whats going on here but will be back to that shop to stock up before coming home. The nice young Italian man serving was also very helpful and offered us lots of free liqueurs to try.

Good day. On the way back found a nice French bar (practically deserted cos its really a ski resort) that said they will show the GP on Sunday

Result!! Sorry if Ive rambled on here, I'm frantically trying to finish this bottle of pastis so I can justify going back for another one....that's lots bigger and cheaper
