I think that this incident held no malice; it was just some clumsy driving on Maldonado's part; but it was 100% Maldonado's fault; Perez gave him a generous amount of room! The causing an avoidable accident rule is pathetic; every accident is avoidable, hence why they are accidents, just call it a racing incident and be done with it; but he'll probably get another time penalty!

Agree, there was room on both sides and just a bit of misjudgement by Maldonado under braking and don't think there should be any action taken.

Pérez says stewards must punish Maldonado
Sergio Pérez was furious after his collision with Pastor Maldonado in Sunday’s British Grand Prix. Having both left the pit lane, the two cars came into contact at Brooklands corner, with Pérez dropping out of the race and Maldonado falling down the field.

The Sauber swept in on the outside line, with Maldonado appearing to drift into the middle of the circuit where the touch was duly made. The incident marked the duo’s second collision this season, having also come to blows in a Monte Carlo practice session, and follows Maldonado’s shunt with Lewis Hamilton on the penultimate lap of the European Grand Prix.

“Pastor…he’s a driver who doesn’t respect other drivers,” a straight-talking Pérez told BBC Sport. “It’s just a manner of fact. I was already in front and he should have given enough space not to crash. I don’t understand the way he is driving.

“I hope the stewards do something because he has done something to someone at the last three races. He’s a very dangerous driver and he can hurt someone. Everybody is concerned about him. He’s a driver who doesn’t respect, doesn’t know we are risking our lives and has no respect at all. I really think the stewards need to do something by now because I’m not the only one he has affected.”

When asked for his version of events, Maldonado explained:

“That was just a racing incident. I was on cold tyres after leaving the pits and tried to defend, but he came across so we were very close…then I slid at the rear, we made contact and it spoiled the race for the pair of us. This is part of the season to forget.”

The incident is currently being investigated by FIA stewards, one of whom is 1992 World Champion and three-time Silverstone winner Nigel Mansell.

Maldonado: Lack of grip caused Pérez clash

Pastor Maldonado blamed cold tyres and oversteer for his collision with Sergio Pérez in the final minutes of Monaco Grand Prix practice on Saturday morning. The stewards saw it in a different light and handed the Williams driver an instant ten-place grid penalty for what they described as a deliberate chopping manoeuvre.

After Maldonado ran into the back of the slower Sauber at the final corner, he was allowed through as the pair reached Portier at the bottom end of the circuit. When passing, the Barcelona winner - involved in a similar incident with Lewis Hamilton at last year's Belgian Grand Prix - was seen to swerve into the path of the Mexican.


“I had a lot of oversteer, on cold tyres, and was trying to recover the car when I touched Pérez,” Maldonado explained to Sky Sports. “It was a small touch. The stewards just directly said it was ten-place penalty. I was just trying to do my best.

“Tomorrow will be a tough one. I think we need to attack from the beginning. This is not the Monaco from many years ago; now, with DRS and KERS, you can attack. It’s going to be very difficult but we do have good pace for tomorrow.”

It is possible that a damaged right-rear wheel caused Maldonado’s heavy crash in Casino Square in the final minutes of practice; furthermore, the contact to the left-front wheel of Pérez may be the reason for his own crash during qualifying, which leaves him last on the grid and just five places behind the penalised Williams man.

Bah why o why do they not have racing incidents anymore? You can't adjust your briefs without it being ruled causing an avoidable accident!
When someone is passing you on the outside, you don't have to slow down. You're on your line. The guy isn't even challenging your line. He's on the outside. You can try to out drag him. That is legal and his boss wouldn't want him to just letthe guy pass. So pastor got some understeer. He didn't do anything wrong this time. What is the sport coming to?

Sergio Perez has slammed Pastor Maldonado after their collision in the British Grand Prix, labelling him "very dangerous" and calling on the FIA to take action.

The two came together when Perez tried to pass Maldonado around the outside of Brooklands and Maldonado lost the rear of his car, forcing him to run wide in to the side of the Sauber. Maldonado was able to continue after a pit stop but Perez's race was ended and he told the BBC that the FIA needed to take action against Maldonado.

"It was matter of fact," Perez said. "I was already in front and if not he should have given me enough space not to crash but he tried to push me all the way to the outside. I don't understand the way he's driving, I really hope the stewards can make something because the last three or four races he has done something to someone. And it's not the first time he damaged my weekend. He did the same with Lewis [Hamilton] in Valencia and they just give him a drive-through, which I think is not enough. This guy will never learn anything if they don't do something. It's dangerous, he's a very dangerous driver and it can hurt someone."

With Maldonado having previously come together with Perez at Monaco and Hamilton in Valencia, Perez said that all the drivers were unhappy with his driving style.

"Everybody has concerns about him. He's a driver that has no respect, doesn't know that we are risking our lives and has no respect at all. The way he's driving I think the stewards really have to do something right now because it's not the first time he's done something and he has affected many other drivers, I'm not the only one."

Ah I like maldonado and I am very disappointed in him for this incident. I can see both sides of the argument. I would love to see an onboard view of maldonado's car during the incident to see what he was doing with the wheel. We'd have a much better idea if it truly was an innocent thing with his rear wheels sliding out a bit or understeer or what have you, or if he purposely went extremely wide in a desperate defensive maneuver.

I agree with what the BBC pundits said, this incident isn't the problem in itself, it's the number of incidents Maldonaldo has been involved in that suggests an attitude problem.

I am a fan of Maldo but he needs to mature very quickly now the Williams car is an attractive propersition to other drivers he may be on thin ice.

I'm not so sure that fine is going to curb his enthusiasm. I think Maldonado can't get out of his GP2 days when consequences for on-track misdeeds weren't as high. He's a bull in a China shop and I sense only a race ban or something a bit more severe will wake him up.
