That was a good race. Obviously coming first would have been better, but a 2nd and a 4th isn't bad. Mark Webber is starting to look like being the biggest challenge from Red Bull. Wonder if this is going to be the pattern this year, or whether Vettel will catch up.

McLaren are going backwards. It wasn't that they had a fast car but managed to lose the race, the car was never quick enough. Perhaps it's as I suggested it might be at the beginning of the year. McLaren have a conservative design which allowed them to be fast at the beginning of the year, but during the year they have been overtaken by teams with cars with more development potential.

On pure speed, I think the Lotus is clearly the fastest car, just ahead of the F2012 and RB8 which are tied in 2nd place. Tifosi have to hope that the German upgrade (said to be as big as the Barcelona one) is as successful as the previous version. If so, watch out everyone else.

Big call there. I can see what you are getting at given that (i think) Grosjean and Raikkonen set the fastest race laps today, although i do think they prefer this sort of track layout. But there is a lack of pace on Saturday which is stopping them using their generally good pace on Sundays - still no front row start for Lotus. I think Red Bull have a slightly better balance in their car in all situations and circuits so for me they've got the best package, just about. But it's all so tight and fraught!

Yea i think Red Bull have the best car too. They started out kinda shaky but they have it figured out. Ferrari are not far behind, and the fact Massa was able to finish only behind RBs is encouraging, but they've been a bit more hit/miss than RB. Also red bull seems to make very few mistakes; when they lose its cause they lost out, not usually thru a mistake of some sort.....

What I thought was very telling was the lap times of Felipe and Seb for at least the last dozen or so laps. Felipe was marginally faster than Seb nearly every lap. And, they both were pushing because they had the guy ahead in their sights and someone behind chasing them.

Massa's results clears two things:
1- Ferrari was the fastest car in Silverstone.
2- Alonso just had a bad race.
