These are some of the questions from an original paper. The children had 40 seconds to answer each question. The pass rate at the time was a score of 86.5%

- If yesterday was the day that comes four days after Thursday, what is the third letter of the day that comes four days after tomorrow?

- If the code for GROW is HRNU what does CUKZ mean?

- Can you move one letter from the first word and place it into or add it to the second word to make two new words completely different that are spelt correctly. All the other letters must remain in the same order and both new words must make sense

plant moor

- Here, join a word from the first group of words from the second group to form one new and proper word that is spelt correctly. The order of letters does not change. The letters from the first group always begin this new word.

(real reap rear)
(sure ley pear)

- And again

(urge gorge surge)
(sure ley pear)

- Can you find the four-letter word hidden between the words that are next to each other in this sentance?

He was amongst the chosen few.

- The middle word of the first set of three words has been formed using the letters of on either side of the square brackets . Can you find the missing word in the second group that has been formed in the same way.

(storm [lost] slots)
(reins [?] after)

What's the time for each question?

I didn't pass mine at 11.

I can't figure out the letter code question, are you supposed to work out the letter shift in the code relative to the original letter in each word? E.g: H is one letter in the alphabet after G , so that would be the same in the new coded word and the first letter would be "B"?

The word problems I probably wouldn't be able to do in the time limit, I suppose it's designed to test if you can spot the words by reading the question and looking at them rather than simply trying out the combinations.

yes it is the letter shift, I had to write them down and then confused myself by putting the un encoded word at the top the second time.

Interesting. I'm going to have a go at those when I have some proper time to spare. :scratchchin:

Same here. In other words, probably never. :P
