The technology is there so it's about time that the football world used it to their advantage. How easy would it be to have sensors around the goal posts with a transmitter of some sort in the ball so the officials would easily know if a ball was over the line or not. They should also look at the refereeing of rugby and go for something similar with the fourth offical and wotnot (if they don't already).

I totally agree. The technology is there, so lets use it. They are using a 5th & 6th (?) official who stands 6 foot from the goal line and he STILL missed it. So technology has to be the way to go.

I'm not too sure what the objection is, I was actually under the impression it was Fifa objecting.

They had a trial when England played Belgium at Wembley, the officials didn't have access to the trial, but the English FA did, I'm not sure how that went.

Goal line technology has been kicked around since the mid 90s and nothing has ever been decided; and I seriously doubt it'll ever be implemented, the football associations don't really want it!

Step Ladder, sorry I mean Seb Blatter is all for it so you never know.

It won't happen; if he really wanted it to become a reality, it would have been implemented already, every time a miscarriage of justice happens; there is uproar and Blatter says FIFA will look into it and then everyone forgets about it and suddenly it's off the agenda again; it's all talk to appease the masses!

Thank god we have avoided Spain just now :) My worry is that really, England have been pretty crap in all 3 matches so far imo...

Agree,

Not too crap, but England weren't great, some holes in all three games, Italy are a better side than the ones we played and England still can't keep possession or take the match to the opposition on an even keel, sitting back against Italy probably won't work.

They're also unlikely to make as many defensive mishaps, Buffon isn't going to start dropping crosses.

Still, decent enough, Hodgson's real task is to shape the new England team, after this tournament I think the older players should all be dropped. They'll be better options for the qualifiers, but long term I think it's best to give the younger players game time.

The current squad have shown spirit, just not often enough, started of this game very slowly. But might put in a better performance against Italy.

I agree on Italy although we are sort of helped by the fact that really, they seem to have been like us at times with not much going on for them going forward. I do worry about set pieces with Pirlo in their team though - i rate that guy, in fact i think he's actually one of my all time favourite players. But we can definitely give that lot a proper game, compared to Spain who would completely **** our current midfield, we'd have basically had to get so damn lucky to get a result against them had we not won the group. But considering that it is also worth a note that should we actually get to the semi's, who are we likely to face? Only bloody Germany... oh well, no one said it'd get any easier! :hehe:

I'm a Pirlo fan too, it was him I was thinking of when I said England shouldn't play deep, De Rossi was well, they'll be picking the ball up well inside their half.

Italy defended very well against Spain too.

I'm not buying that much into the Ronaldo hype, he scores a lot of goals because he's a very good technical player and is selfish, the Cech Republic were very poor, well shortly after the start of the game they were.

Germany look like a strong all round team.

Can't wait to see Spain v France, if France come with a solid gameplan they could win this one, as long as Ribery passes the ball every now and then. The Spanish are incredibly strong in one department and it massively biases their play, to win a football match you have to score more goals than the opposition, it seems Spain kinda forget that. But France haven't really lived up to their potential yet, the front free not working together too much, and the centre backs haven't played well.

I was watching this match with some friends in a pub in Camden Town. Had far too many pints of ale. As a result, I'm seriously drunk. It has taken me while to write this message correctly...

So England did well.

Seriously hold off Italy to go to penalties - did think they'd get that far.

Based on previous form when it comes to penalties, the result was what I expected tbh... So, looking to the World Cup....
