Mercedes keep their Canada spec front wing, minus the main grouping of winglet elements, which i hadn't noticed before. Quite odd! Suggests the huge power of their double DRS system though.

HRT have that tiny Williams gearbox on their car now. Yet, the bodywork apparently doesn't take advantage of it... you would think it would be an obvious step for them to take as soon as they got these components on their car...

(i have been quite slack on my keeping tabs on F1 car updates recently, trying to fix that...)

Nice! Keep them coming. I love how F1 shops are extremely clean

Extremely close field as usual so far, 3 tenths covering the Top 9 in FP1...

I saw this television commercial yesterday! Very interesting given the US market. Seems like Infinity is looking to milk the Austin GP for all it's worth. I'm all for anything that promotes F1 stateside, even if it's a "Vettel" impersonator. :hehe:

Ok - here's probably the most noteworthy upgrade on any car this weekend, Red Bull's latest exhaust system, which is quite brilliantly intricate i must say:

Other updates i've seen are much smaller, for example Ferrari have a new front wing (well, updated winglets), but you can barely see any difference in the photo of the old and new wing.

One other thing i noticed is that lots of teams, almost all in fact, are now running small fins or turning vane-esque bodywork on the sidepods, at the front edge just above the main radiator inlets (or near the mirrors - that area of the car). They just control airflow over the sidepods/off the frontal area especially the wheels. McLaren and Sauber have had these parts on their car for some time, but i think it is new for Red Bull. Examples:

I do love examining the aerodynamic detail on F1 cars :)

McLaren was the first I remember seeing the little veins/winglets on top of the sidepods a few races ago. As far as upgrades are concerned, that's an easy copy for everyone.

Getting back to Valencia and why it's such a bore... looking at practice this morning, it baffles me, because it's a beautiful circuit, in a great location. Very challenging with super high speeds, and a lot of turns, and it's very abusive on the brakes, so why is it such a dud?!?!

From what i can see,Lewis is not quite happy with his car,it does not look right to be honest.I really hope that this meeting in the middle set up has not compromised his performance.

We will only know after quali.

Not sure where you got it was a meeting in the "middle". It was clearly stated that the base setup for Jenson would begin and Lewis's base setup so they had a known working factor and they'd go from there.

I'm not sure how else to explain this but the cars are not different... they are IDENTICAL, it's the set up that is altered to suit the taste and preference of the particular driver. Since McLaren felt the setup for Button was so lost, they figured to start the setup for button with the baseline of Lewis' car as that's proven to be a solution capable of a winning and balanced car, and much less harsh on rear tires. It's a sensible starting point wouldn't you agree?

Who said anything about the cars being not identical, don't make it up as you go along please.

I'm am saying Lewis didn't seem happy with his car today, obviously tomorrow is a different story.

I think it's because the circuit isn't a high speed adrenalin full time race circuit with massive straights long sweeping corners and deep braking, nor is it a full on street circuit because of all the run off area.

Perhaps I've been a little more focused on the F2012, but I've noticed a hec of a lot more changes that updated winglets on the front wing. Here's what I've seen new on the F2012 so far:-
1) New bargeboard with new fins and slot gap
2) New mirrors
3) New front wing - slot on trailing edge, end plate plus winglet changes
4) all new exhaust - slot added ahead of outlet (cooling?) pointing more outward (I think) closer to driver, tongue below exhaust channel added, vane on the floor channeling the gases has moved, acer duct opening shape change

Will post some pics later :)

Not sure how else to interpret your statement then... Lewis not being happy with his car would have absolutely nothing to do with the meeting in the middle business you talked about.

I to feel the same way, When you play it on F1 2011 video game its actually quite fun to race on, especially the fast and flowing bit at the end of lap, That is the only good thing I like about this track being on the calender, so that i can play it on the PS3, :hehe: other than that, I would rather see the race off the calender.

Hopefully Valencia can make up for the last couple dull races and give us a good one come Sunday.
