Thank god we have avoided Spain just now :) My worry is that really, England have been pretty crap in all 3 matches so far imo...

Agree,

Not too crap, but England weren't great, some holes in all three games, Italy are a better side than the ones we played and England still can't keep possession or take the match to the opposition on an even keel, sitting back against Italy probably won't work.

They're also unlikely to make as many defensive mishaps, Buffon isn't going to start dropping crosses.

Still, decent enough, Hodgson's real task is to shape the new England team, after this tournament I think the older players should all be dropped. They'll be better options for the qualifiers, but long term I think it's best to give the younger players game time.

The current squad have shown spirit, just not often enough, started of this game very slowly. But might put in a better performance against Italy.

Watched the second half with some friends in a pub in Canary Wharf. Had a few good pints of ale. Other things too, but it's the ale that stands out.

The only news i see on Euro is all the stuff after the game with the fans getting together in a brawl.

So Engerlund have gotten through with the help of a blind lines-man. I hope the cheating barstewards send him a thank you gift.

Match should be declared void and replayed.

Would you be saying that if Scotland were the one's that benefitted from a blind referee? :P

England have had their fair share of blind referees decisions go against them, World Cup '86 springs to mind with Madonna's hand of god!!!

But England were still poor; Italy will be a much sterner test, hopefully England can hit their stride in the quarter finals!

Yes I would. I don't go in for blind support just 'cos I live somewhere.

Doesn't matter what's happened in the past but this was totally clear cut with no possible doubt at all that Ukraine scored a goal. Maradonna's so-called hand of God is quite debatable depending on the angle you look at it from.

Andrew, you are right, England benefitted from a poor linesman (Theyd have gone through anyway..top of the group still I think) Do you remember exactly the same scenario when Lamprd had a similar goal disallowed in the world cup??
That said, do you realise that the player who scored that uncredited goal for the Ukraine was actually offside?? Two failing linesmen cancel out, so we're back to the status quo.

I doubt they were offside given that FIFA themselves have said that the goal shouldn't have been disallowed.

Technically the goal wasn't disallowed it wasn't "allowed" in the first place I think.

At anyrate, I've always supported goal line technology, these incidents have happened before and no need to blame England for it. They were lucky sure, but the call was down to the officials. The footballing world either has to live with the consequences or work out a solution.

You "doubt they were offside"?

So from that, you obviously didn't watch the game? If you had, you would of seen that it was a blatant offside.

So the match officials got two things wrong - didn't call an offside, and didn't spot the goal - which cancel each other out. So its all good.

As for the match - The result we needed, and managed to avoid Spain (for now), but still a very unconvincing display. Rooney was lacking, and Milner needs to work on his passing.

I didn't see the game so am just going on what has been covered at length on the news.

The technology is there so it's about time that the football world used it to their advantage. How easy would it be to have sensors around the goal posts with a transmitter of some sort in the ball so the officials would easily know if a ball was over the line or not. They should also look at the refereeing of rugby and go for something similar with the fourth offical and wotnot (if they don't already).
