Which is your favorite Star Trek Captain? Feel free to elaborate why if you wish.

1. Picard
2. Kirk

I would have selected them all and put them into order, but some wise guy only allowed 3 selections. :( I selected my favourite 2 though: Picard and Kirk.

I've really started something here, haven't I?? One minute everyone's talking about fast cars and then I come along and now everyone's talking about Star Trek all of a sudden.

Looks like I am the only one to vote for Benny so far.

It is easier to say who I did not vote for and why,

My problem with Kirk is that he was a poor leader. He seemed to have problems delegating.

Janeway seemed to be a weak commander, (which would explain why she was in charge of voyager and what mission it was on when they ended up in Delta) She also always ended up getting out of the scrape rather by luck.

And Picard?

Picard was a turn around. Think about it. If you where a commander of a starship your place is on the bridge, as without a captain a ship would loose moral, focus and drive. So Picard 9 times out of 10 would stay on the bridge and delegate mission control to Riker, or if Picard did leave the ship Riker would stay on board. (most of the time)

Picard would also delegate and let his department heads deal with the problems and he just over-viewed what was happening and made sure they where all heading towards the common goal.

Sisko I think also integrated non Federation staff into his command structure far better than Janeway did.

Captains are supposed to stay on the bridge, federation rules and stuff after Kirk going off gallivanting.... do I get out of this by killing you or f*cking you?

You have to place each show in the respective time period it was created in. Picard was the personification of command, the entire make it so like was the embodiment of what it was to give an order. The thing with Janeway is that IMO she had the toughest task of anyone else, there was no help, no other start fleet ship to rely on and simply surviving while looking for any way to get home was the mission itself. Looks like we picked the same order MOA. I chose 3 simply to make it a bit more interesting, one vote would have been difficult for some, and five votes would have been pointless, so three is a happy medium and it will be a better representation of overall popularity. I'm fully expecting Picard to run away with it.

Kirk-Shatner

Without his boldness and galivanting, the franchise would not exist. After the original series ended, and even a few years in syndiaction, Paramount could not deny the power of Kirk and his crew. After the movies, TNG came on the scene and ran forever. There were some dynamic moments of TNG, my favorites:

1. Picard getting tortured
2. Worf Killing Duras

but overall Kirk

My order

Kirk Shatner
Picard
Sisko
Archer

I am also a fan of the new Movie franchise, I think they did a good job casting but not sure on the Kirk as yet.
