Credit to McLaren Mercedes, I gave them a lot of flak and they have completely OUTSMARTED Redbull and Ferrari, awesome awesome job!:thumbup::thumbup:

:yes: Ive also given mclaren a lot of flak...not undeserved either...but yesterday they got it right and so should be commennded. And that combined with a stunning drive from lewis putting in purple after purple sectors and fastest laps gave them a win. SWEET!! I had to go out of the room for Lewis' pitstops though, I just couldnt watch.

Yep. It was Ferrari and RBR which made the tactical errors this time.

I still have a lot of questions, but by Saturday, I had concluded (and was going to post, but I got distracted), I had concluded that Lewis had won -- for the moment -- the monumental fight he was having, to gain the proper respect within the team . . . , and therefore, if things continued on the up-and-up, he would be staying with McLaren. That was my thinking before the race. Now with him having won, I think that's the definite trend . . . , but it's a long season. Anything can still happen.

My primary concern is still the cultural one (and this may not be the proper place to discuss it). But with me watching CNN/World, and hearing about "monkey chants" and such in the "football" world (even today), and looking at the victory celebration, it's just very apparent that Lewis is bringing new types of fans into the sport, and I'm not at all sure that it's totally welcome. F1 is great sport, but the rest of it -- the obscene privilege and elitism displayed -- I could easily do without.

McLaren obviously caters to a certain type of clientele, and, for a long while there, I don't really think they gave a bleep about what the ordinary fan thought of the whole situation . . . , that is, until the uproar on so many sites became deafening, and I think they heard it. I think the thought occurred to them that if they drove Lewis away (intentionally or not), and he thrived elsewhere, well, that's just not something you ever live down, reputation wise. He's no "average Joe," nor is he an "affirmative-action racer," this dude can be an all-time great (and I've seen a lot of racing). He's truly a one-in-a-million phenom.

In fact, I wrote elsewhere, in the midst of all that crap last year, that Lewis is really a 21st century Jackie Robinson (as well as some harsher stuff, I must say). Alas, I'm not welcome there anymore. But anyway, you guys and ladies (and thanks, RC, because your support for Lewis was what alerted me to this site in the first place), you all, though small in number compared to some of the more corporate sites, you all are the best. At least, that is, no one has threatened to kick me off yet.

:grouphug: for all the Lewis fans, and for anyone who celebrates the accomplishment, even if Lewis isn't their favorite.

And Hammer, if this is getting too political for your thread, my apologies, maybe someone can move it. But I wanted to pay some props to you too, as I see you've been waiting a while to reinvigorate this thread (as we all have  ), so that's why I posted this here.

For Lewis fans everywhere, damn, this has been a long time coming. My only question is, who's going to play him in the movie.

Glad to have you on board 'The Truth' :D And glad you like the site. We aim to allow debate and differing views, not much point in a forum if everone just tows the party line. We've had some 'lively' members in our time but the current bunch though differing in views are generally respectful of each other.....with the odd blip :hehe:
Agree with you on Lewis, he's something else. And who's gonna play him in the movie? Id choose Will Smith's son without a doubt. A bit young at the moment but by the time the film comes out he'll be perfect. :P

Wonderful insight.

The shame will be McLaren observing this economic downturn and paying him far below his current/future value as Uncle Ron hinted, but yet pays Button at a premium for his pale performances. If Lewis wins the 2012 WDC, McLaren then have a bigger problem. This is where you lean on the most clever of Sr. Management and barristers to...em...reorganize Buttons contract to reflect his value-to-pay ratio and slide some of those bills on the other side of the garage to retain Lewis. Don't be daft and short the guy that's filling the team's coffers in points yet put the far less productive team-mate on a highly rewarded pedestal. If McLaren can quickly renegotiate a contract with an out clause for Alonso after just one year, it's far easier to reorg a contract based on driver failings. This isn't about Button...pay Lewis. Show the lad some love cause he's busting his hump and delivering for you. Back to if Lewis wins the WDC—imagine if he takes the #1 decal to Red Bull and then go on to flog McLaren? He's had dreams of driving a modern Newey car. I really want Lewis to stay at McLaren but I'll be truthful...there is a little bit of me that would love to see him take a Newey car and just dominate some seasons. OK, I feel a little bad about saying that but...

I'm just saying...

I may need to black up for this and become a shortarse. The PC brigade would never stand for it (they'd sit down and write to the Daily Mail and ask "What would Diana do?") - a person of regular height pretending to be someone shorter, how terribly non-PC! :hehe:

I realize this is a joke, but it's a pretty bad joke. It's like asking R2D2 to play the Terminator....or Rowan Atkinson to play the part of Batman....or a kid with no arms to play Chuck Norris....or, well you get the point.

Andrew has too much self respect to play a tw@ in a movie like that :D

I'm j/k, lewis really isn't a tw@ in my eyes, but maybe in andrew's :P
