And they're a family of benefit cheats! :irked:

What are you Brits celebrating again? Somebody got really old really slowly in a job that isn't really a job. So basically you're celebrating being a celebrity for 60 years! Tsk, tsk, tsk, these Brits...

It's more England that's getting excited rather than Britain. According to the BBC, there are between 100 and 200 street closures for parties whereas in Englandshire there are circa 10,000!

And she's German - sort of. :hehe:

Well if thats the way Scotland feels, the sooner it f***s off, the better.

Come on mate, it is a once in a lifetime thing! I bet you could not be bothered by the wedding last year either.

The wedding of 2 complete strangers was of no interest to me, nor is this aniversary of another complete stranger. If I get married the country won't stop for me, nor will it stop for me if I do my job for 60 years.

You stop to watch complete strangers do their job driving around in cars every second weekend don't you?

Seeing her trying to wave out a car at nearly 200mph might be worth watching.

It's a bit different if you think about it.

Watching F1 is watching some sports type people do their job for our entertainment.

The diamond jubilee pish is watching tax payers money being wasted on an over the top party for what we'd call a benifit cheat if her family background was different, whose sole achievement is staying alive into her 80's. I expect the UK to throw me a party if I live to be 86 and am still working. :irked:

Besides, I'm not a royalist.

To be honest i would hope by that point that we don't have to deal with the royal family any more anyway, personally.

A bit harsh :D

 Well said Scotty!

The cost of the Monarchy to the UK Tax Payer: £32.1M. source

I dont think thats very expensive. There is a lot more crap that us taxpayers have to fork out for, that are far more useless.....

Especially if you compare it to our annual Debt Interest Payments of £30BILLION! source

So relatively, they are very cheap.

I've mellowed slightly, I'm not sure if the overall niceness of an event can (theoretically) outweigh the basic principles that are why the event is taking place, and if this applies to the street parties and other stuff in the case of the Diamond Jubilee.
------

Although, I apologise to the OP, this wasn't a thread to discuss that sort of stuff, shouldn't have detracted from it but started a new thread I think. Although would that have been worse?

No worries I am a royalist and not worried where the thread is going.

To add onto it all, almost 16 years ago I pledged an Oath to the Queen and still stand by it today. I personally would rather rally to a Monarchs war cry instead of an elected leader. Because the Queen will never start a war to win votes to get re elected.

I, Jabberwocky, Swear by Almighty God that I will be Faithful and bear True Allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, her Heirs and Successors, and that I will, as in Duty bound, Honestly and Faithfully Defend Her Majesty, her Heirs and Successors, in Person, Crown and Dignity against all Enemies and will Observe and Obey all Orders of Her Majesty, her Heirs and Successors, and of the Air Officers and other Officers set over me.

To be fair my oath was slightly different because I opted out of the god bit. However I could not find it online.

£32.1M that could go to a worthy cause rather than it being poured down the drain.

Of course, because the Royal Family are not involved in any sort of charity work, and dont raise anything currently....
