To say that they should have their points taken away is rubbish as is saying their car was illegal - it wasn't. Red Bull had it in writing that their car was legal from Charlie Whiting. Since then, a technical clarification has been issued where a loophole that made their car legal has now been closed thus making it illegal. Basically, the car was legal up to and including the Monaco GP. From the Canadian GP onwards their current car is illegal due to a change in the reg's. Don't see what the fuss is. It's not like it's the first time that the reg's have been "clarified" midseason. Time to find the next loophole then.

Totally agree with this. Not a red bull fan but I do believe that since their car passed inspections for those races, the points they got shouldn't be taken away.

It's the fault of the FIA for not clarifying this issue earlier.

The car was not illegal for previous 3 races, it is illegal from now as its been deemed illegal

Although the reason for its illegality has existed for 3 races

And a driver gets dqed from quali for 1 kilo of fuel

F1 truly is a trailblazer for fair judicial process

What about Sauber in Aust last year. They did not fail scrutinizing before the race yet they were disq "after" the race for a variation far smaller (and I might add completely inconsequential) in their car.

Yeah they failed scrutineering after the race.
But what about Ferrari 2007, their floor was deemed illegal after the Australian GP but were allowed to keep their win. Same thing Spankyham but I'm sure your view on both is different.

Yep, these are completely different. Firstly, Ferrari never broke a rule. In 2007 movement had to be limited to 5mm when under a certain load, and Ferrari did not exceed this AND it was specifically tested during scrutineering. However, McLaren complain and the rules were changed immediately.

Everyone is making comments based on the thread title. Which is wrong, because the car passed scrutineering.

Therefore, the car was legal. Regulations were clarified... the car is not allowed to race in said configuration anymore. It's happened a lot of times. If it went on to a race now in the same config as the past 3 races, it would get DQ, because it is illegal now.

Move on.... scheisse happens.

In any case... that Bull is goin down :whip:

I thought the thread title would spice things up a bit. :P

ahh, its a mclaren fans field day

good day chaps

Just imagine the reaction around here if it was "McLaren running with illegal car for past 3 races".... I'd have to run and hide for a week.

If it was McLaren somehow the penalty would have been a 24 grid spot hit for Lewis, only Lewis in Canada.

At this point I'm just glad that we've got so many cars capable of podiums and outright wins.

It's always gonna be a bigger deal if either of McLaren or Ferrari runs with illegal car.
Marko says that they weren't gonna use it for the Canadian GP therefore it doesn't seem like a big threat for them.(That's also what he says)
I am still not sure about his honesty, though.

Well he may very well have trouble identifying the distiguishing features of two types of holes so as to tell them apart.

Nothing worse than when you get holes mixed up
