The regulations have not changed, what has changed is the understanding on what the regulations mean, clearly the scrutineers and technical delegates didn't have a full understanding of the regs!

Put another way, "if" any of those 3 teams had protested after the checkered flag then Red Bull would have most certainly have been disq.

You can put it anyway you want; the bottom line is that there is a lack of understanding of the regulations by the people that are charged with checking and enforcing those regulations!

I am also willing to bet that each team has something on their car that doesn't comply 100% with the regs, just that it may not be as visible as Red Bull's hole in the floor; that's the nature of F1!

To say that they should have their points taken away is rubbish as is saying their car was illegal - it wasn't. Red Bull had it in writing that their car was legal from Charlie Whiting. Since then, a technical clarification has been issued where a loophole that made their car legal has now been closed thus making it illegal. Basically, the car was legal up to and including the Monaco GP. From the Canadian GP onwards their current car is illegal due to a change in the reg's. Don't see what the fuss is. It's not like it's the first time that the reg's have been "clarified" midseason. Time to find the next loophole then.

Incidently, does anyone know what these slots do and how much of a performance gain, if any, they provide? Maybe best to look at this before calling blue murder as any gain could be quite small.

The age of the current regulations and when they were implimented is irrelevant. The only relevant fact is that Charlie Whiting declared the car legal. Now after a request for a clarification the car is nop longer legal. Ultimately, the car was legal for the last 3 races due to the FiA or their representatives not doping a very good job or not fully understanding the reg's or interpreting the reg's incorrectly.

What a surprise that they didn't have their points taken away, I bet if that car was silver they would loose all their points for the whole season and be given a huge fine but not these lot what a bunch of cheats is that really the only way red bull can win by cheating.

Exactly! They've been struggling (compared to their past 2 seasons) plus this sounds more of a mistake by the FiA ratehr than a team deliberately trying it on. The car should have been declared illegal 3 races ago not now when it's going to be a huge hoo-ha that gets blown out of all proportion.

It's ok, I've got this covered. I'm awaiting the usual snide remarks from the usual suspects. In fact, seeing as I've predicted these there is not need for usual in-fighting and bickering so this can just be a good technical/engineering discussion.

It's a competitive sport so teams don't have to declare their designs to other teams (I think), just with the FIA. What happened was other team(s) (who Vald seems to assume means Ferrari) have spotted it, and argued the case. The FIA decided that, the other team(s) had a point, which admittedly suggests incompetency from the FIA, as why didn't they work out the argument before, or have confidence to stick by their decision?

The car was not illegal for previous 3 races, it is illegal from now as its been deemed illegal

Although the reason for its illegality has existed for 3 races

And a driver gets dqed from quali for 1 kilo of fuel

F1 truly is a trailblazer for fair judicial process

What about Sauber in Aust last year. They did not fail scrutinizing before the race yet they were disq "after" the race for a variation far smaller (and I might add completely inconsequential) in their car.

Yeah they failed scrutineering after the race.
But what about Ferrari 2007, their floor was deemed illegal after the Australian GP but were allowed to keep their win. Same thing Spankyham but I'm sure your view on both is different.
